Sounds like a fair trade to me.

Don't need to separate the slide from the frame to lube a 1911 adequetely. The muzzle end of the barrel can be lubed with the slide locked back, and oil will reach the lugs by putting oil on the exposed part of the barrel through the ejection port with the slide forward. Some oil down in front of the cocked hammer, a bit on the slide -- good to go.
RemOil isn't optimal but will most likely work just fine.
I have lubing with the Wilson oil just like the above post suggests. I am not breaking the gun open because I am lazy. My policy now is to break it open every 1500 rounds to replace the shok-buff.
The beast is back! Wilson got my slide on Monday and had it back to me by friday. I now have a snazzy gold bead front sight.

Ruby was missed last weekend. This week I had 200 rounds of el-cheapo "Monarch" 230 grain ball waiting for her. My drills consisted of..
1. Dot Torture drills. I did this to reconfirm that the gun is shooting to zero. It absolutely is. Wilson did their usual top notch job.
2. FAST drills. Started in the low 6s, ended in the mid 5s. Hard to keep up with my times because the range was very busy and my timer kept picking up the XD and Rossi crowd beside me :p.
3. Hackathorn drills (with an emphasis on box drills and lateral movement).
4. Some drills of my own devising. I like to shoot at two regular sized sheets of paper spaced about 5 foot apart. I draw, shoot 2, transition to the second target fire one, reload from slide lock and shoot another round. This drill, which only uses 4 rounds gets you a draw, a split a transition and a reload. Not too shabby. I will call it the Ruby drill unless it has another name already!
I took the gun apart and took a picture of the throat area for Ned.

I also replaced the shook buff while I was in there. Notice the length of a new 17 pound spring next to the one in the gun. I am going to try and make it to 5k but the spring has apparently noticed all the full power hardball.

It is fairly normal to see that kind of spring compression in my experience, even after only 1000 rounds. Have you thought about trying a Wilson flat wire recoil spring for this test? It would be interesting to see if you were able to wear one of those springs out.
I'm liking that front sight. I had a Colt done by them last year, but the front sight apparently fell through the cracks and came back plain. I remember specifying tritium, but I must have forgotten to confirm that in the build process. I'm thinking about have it replaced the same way you did. :)
I actually have a flat-wire set. I think I will go ahead and switch over and test it out.
Sorry if I derail the thread...
You've got to post your pictures of that Colt once you're back from booger-eating land :). FYI - did they offer to engrave yours on the dust cover free of charge?
I ended up going with the Gold Bead front sight from Wilson as well. Probably the finest sight picture money can buy. You got lucky with a 5 month turn around :), took that long for them to even start on mine heh. Can't wait to get it back.
Beschatten- Email me! Or PM me your email. Your PM box must be full, I tried there first. I appear to have deleted your email. No, they didn't offer anything along the lines of engraving. :(
Mr. Bell-How much did it turn out round trip to get that front sight installed?
