Definitely interested in your next test fire. Very odd.
I am not sure why DD would not have tested the head-space.
Good point...I admit, I overlooked whether the gentlemen was using a .223 or 5.56 gauge. I have to trust that DD used the right gauge as part of their SOP to inspect the barrel and it passed (SAW as well).Quote:
If you are using a .223 gage you will get false results.
Yesterday was a good day. 200 rounds of the Aguila 55 grain that I've use before, doing drills from 7-25 yards.
The gun performed flawlessly.
Some slow fire, maybe 30 rds, while the rest consisted of rapid fire drills (rhythm, multiple targets 1/1.5 second presentations from low-ready).
The upper got good and hot...hot enough to melt the forward acetal sling buckle when the carbine was layed down for a moment.
I'll get to the 100 yard range later this month.

Now, as I posted before, DD polished the chamber and reported far less marring on the shell casings after doing so.
Pre-polish, here are the two cartridges that FTE, previously, before the barrel went back to DD:

I know it's hard to see, but the casings have the typical vertical line marks from the magazine, but there are also 'speckled' wear marks all over the two casings.
Post-polish from DD:

I picked these up yesterday after the session. Aside from a vertical line or two, the casings are smooth and unremarkable.
So, I guess I'm led to conclude that the chamber of the DD barrel was originally quite rough and led to the intermittent FTE with this new build (new parts wear-in)....unless one of you fellas has another hypothesis...IG?
Time will tell for sure if the upper is good to go, but after yesterday, my confidence in it is buoyed.
My guess is that it was the chamber issue to begin with.
Glad to hear your carbine's reliability is headed in the right direction. My finger's are crossed for you.
May I inquire about the handguard in your pic? Details? Brief review?
It's obviously a keymod interface, but it looks like a polymer, two-piece set utilizing the delta ring assembly.
