Yeah, while I don't want a crazy logo on my lower, and I don't know why someone would dimple a bolt, I think the Spikes' sights look pretty good--I do think their price point is a bit high.
I like them almost as much as the Magpul PROs, but both seem to be very low-profile and way cheaper than KAC. It's true that you could lose the small aperature, but KAC has their little snap in aperature that can also be lost. I liked that he made a bolt of S7, but don't really understand the dimples (don't mind them); I like that he is trying to innovate EVEN if a LOT of the stuff is mall-ninja looking with the name plastered on it (I really hate having "Tactical" on my AR anywhere). I bought an upper with an ST-2 buffer in it, and it felt great for the 2500rds I put through it--never noticed any bolt bounce or anything.
If it weren't for all the anti-ST-2 hype, I probably would have gotten another...but all the bad press scared me away.
That said, I do think Tom has at times been uncool on forums--same goes for Larue. That's their right, and some people don't seem to mind (they both have TONS of defenders). I mind a bit, but I still will buy a good product when I see one (and at the moment, I think the LT660 is still the T1 mount to beat, and their combo-price is great....I have moved to Bobro and other brands on most of my mounts though).
Not even remotely true. Many brands are liked here, even brands putting out stuff for decent cost like Sionics, S&W, etc.
Spikes is just more of the Zombie/mall ninja crowd. Just how it is, as they promote themselves as such. If you spend enough time reading here you will notice you just have to leave personal feelings aside.
But anyways this definitely got way off track from the sights lol. Will be interesting to see how they hold up. Now Troy has lost a lot of people wanting to support them by purchasing their products, I'm sure Spikes is trying to fill a gap in quality sights (as there are only a handful of battle proven options out there). They are competitng with some heavy hitters in the sight world, as well, I think this can go either good for them, like it did for Diamondhead, or can go south fast like YHM or PSA with the "just better than UTG" outlook.
I have to agree that spike's kinda promotes their stuff to a childish faction or ar15 owners. Look at the Hell breaker lower, zombie logos, fake can and grenade launcher.
That being said they do have a decent product. I wouldn't hesitate to own a basic carbine or mid-length if I were on a budget. I don't look at a Spike's owner differently unless they show up to a class decked out for the zombie apocalypse. Then its hard to take someone like that seriously.
These sights look okay... only time will tell.
JBall, try them out and post an honest review on them. Guys here eat that shit up.
Yes. Just yes.
I use a spikes let for my patrol carbine and i am pleased with it.
But i care how an owner conducts himself and choose not to recommend ST products due to that. I can deal with the juvenile marketing, obscene logo, and look-at-me coloring.
These sights are likely of decent quality.
