I really don't think the stuff is going to "sludge" up as much as people say.
I used Rem Oil and Birchwood Casey's gun oil for a lot of heavy shooting in my AR carbine because it's what I had on hand and it worked. I just had to keep adding a few drops here and there. Now, I'm using Frog lube. It's slick and the carrier stays wet through many more rounds. I can shoot without having to keep adding lube.
ARs are not picky about what you lube them with as long as you keep them lubed
This is from an earlier post of mine on price, keep in mind the Weapon Shield is usually even cheaper than Remoil per ounce:
$6.25 per ounce is not a few bucks. In this I freely admit that as far as staying put the FC is a minutely better as both ARs were still wet and slick. Is it $6.25 an ounce better though? Well that's what I'm doing now. I'm seeing how long before reapplication per round, how smooth it cycles after certain round counts, and how easy clean up is. As I stated earlier I let 2 AR's go 2 months just sitting in the safe to see if both lubes would stay put. Remoil would make it 1 week before drying out.Quote:
The FC seems to work a little better, it should though at $15 for 2 oz ($7.50 per oz). The WS works very well, it might not be as good as FC but it seems like a very very good lube. Both are better than Remoil by a hell of a lot. It (WS) also only costs $20 for 16 oz ($1.25 per oz), that's cheaper or equal to the price of Remoil.
Being able to grab a rifle and shoot without oiling is a need I have. We get wildlife on our property that can be very dangerous. Just a few weekends ago a large raccoon wound up by our apple tree at noon. He was shifting about and acting strangely, like he was drunk. I've never seen a raccoon out in our area at this time of day, sure as hell not with our dogs out running the property. I had to shoot him right then, even though all our animals get rabies shots I don't chance things. I took the carcass to the vet for testing. A few months before I had the same thing happen with a skunk on the other side of the property, the skunk tested positive for rabies.
I'm no door kicker in harms way guy, I'm more country bumpkin' than anything. I just wanted to find a lube that would hold up without weekly reapplication. Pulling a rifle every week to lube is crazy. I picked up FC because so many here like it and the tests that I saw looked good. I couldn't find a complaint about it anywhere. WS was recommended but wasn't on the poll. I didn't find any that were unhappy with it either but a few did say they liked FC better. Price per ounce for WS was lower than any other lubes I could find other than automotive lubricants. It also had a lot of videos and good feedback so I said what they hell and tried it. Both BCGs work much smoother than with Remoil and neither have dried out. I'm still in the wait and see area of testing as far as how many rounds they'll stay lubrous but both have went 40 to 60 rounds and are still wet.
If you shoot a $100 worth of ammo thru a $2,000 AR once a month or so how important is it to save $10 every 6 months on lubricant? Especially if the FC saves you cleaning time? How much is your time worth? I do think its a good idea to have quart of motor oil as a back up. I got the 2 oz. bottle 10 months back, cleaned firearms with it 8-12 times & still have a good bit left.
some of us would have to order it as it is not available locally or cheap enough to buy in bulk. thats the main reason i havemt tried it yet. might put a bottle in the cart next time i make an order just to see what all the hubub is about.
also i would be lucky to shoot 100 bucks worth of ammo in 6 months, let alone have a 2k AR. both my AR's combined cost less than that.
The ”you” was supposed to be generic. Sorry if it seemed aimed at you. The $2000 would include the rifle, rds, qd base, light & sling.
Skip one good six pack; buy lube for the year. If you don't have enough pocket change for lube, what are you pretending to do with actual guns? I've never understood the point of niggling over gun related things that cost less than loading a single magazine.
