I am currently an active duty Sergeant in the USMC and I was married last June and our first is due in Aug, so my budget won't really allow me to spend much money on my weapons right now. That being said, I am feeling the need to upgrade my AR right now. I built it up with the only the mounting of the barrel and hand guard left to a gun shop because I didn't want to mess it up. It was built during the holiday season of 2012 when everything was ridiculously hard to find and very expensive when it could be found, so I had to make some compromises to get a fully functional weapon. So, the parts list for my current weapon is as follows:
Upper: Daniel's Defense 16" LW Mid-length Barrel
Daniel's Defense BCG
Daniel's Defense Low pro gas block and gas tube
Vltor MUR-1A Upper Reciever
Geissele SMR MK1 10"
Lower: Stag Arms Forged Lower Reciever
ALG ACT Trigger
PSA LPK
Noveske/Magpul STS Saftey
BCM Gunfighter Mod 1 Pistol Grip
Magpul UBR
Accessories: EoTech EXPS 2
Insight WML on HSP 1913 Thorntail Mount
Troy Short Foregrip
DD A1.5 Fixed BUIS
Now that the background is out of the way, here is the part that I need advice on. The resultant weapon from those parts has become ridiculously heavy (so much so that my wife has trouble maneuvering it) and even though I am a small person (5'5", 135 lbs) I feel like I am scrunched up far too much on the rifle. Is there any way, by selling parts of the rifle that I would be able to fix it? Or, would I be better off trying to sell the entire thing (minus accessories) and starting over with something that is better suited? My primary purpose for this rifle is to protect my family in the event I need to. If it helps at all I was thinking of going with either buying or re-configuring my rifle into something very similar to the BCM RECCE-14.5 KMR MK2 that 1 of my friends recently purchased, and I've had a chance to shoot.
