My Colt is really staked nice and I don't want to pull the tube. What's the best attachment??? Thanks, I have a big carbine class coming.

I've had good luck using the MI's from Brownells on my 6940 and 901-16S. Pull off the butt, slide it down the tube, line up the slots, snug it in and clamp it down tight. Have them on a couple other AR's and so far no problems.
None.
To do it right you need to pull the RE.
It's really not that bad though, and re-staking is pretty simple.
If you want to leave your end plate in place, you need the Tango Down PR-4.
I agree with Jack. Use an endplate. Noveske and IWC make two that are QD. I've seen the TD pull loose after the user dropped their carbine and let it land on the non-bungee sling. The mount was captured by the stock, but it made us all clench-up (especially since he had a can on the muzzle at the time).
Do it right. Plenty of youtube videos to show you how.
FailureToStop is 100% right. I have used the "clamp type." It WILL come loose with use. No question.
Agreed. I run a Noveske qd end plate. Unstaking the factory end plate wasn't too bad at all. Re staking is really easy too. Just make sure you stake the endplate in two places. I've had no issues with the end plate, but the MS3 sling is another story.
Get the end plate that is STEEL and not Aluminum....Noveske or IWC & B5 I think.

I used the tan version on a deployment and it never came loose. It doesn't beat a staked receiver/end plate but if you don't have the tools, don't want to remove and re-stake, or not allowed because it is an issued weapon, get the Troy.
Noveske QD plate on mine. No issues.
If you really do not want to break the staking take a look at these.
MAD Hookup
Z 360 sling mount
You could also use a heavy duty zip tie.
What I have found is the single point slings seem to point the rifle into my leg when dropped . So I don't use them.
I've used the Midwest Industries MCTAR-13 for years on my M4's and personal guns. It has never come loose. If you're concerned about that, thread locker will assuage your worries. I'm not a fan of QD buttons after having them release when they hit magazines or pouches. I use the HK clips for the front and rear attachments.

I used a single point for a while but always found it a little awkward when transition to pistol (or notebook), climbing ladders and walls, etc. I recently switched to the TD PR-4 and a QD sling mount at the rear of my handguard (as close to the receiver as possible), which gives me almost as much flexibility as a single point but does a much better job (for me) of stabilizing the rifle when I'm letting it hang to perform other tasks. I used this setup on my M4 in MOUT and CQB training and found it to be very comfortable for my needs.

It is a little awkward when going to pistol, but I prefer the ability to switch shoulders pretty seamlessly. I have a clip on the rear of my hand guard as well, but mostly run single point. I haven't had to do much climbing, etc, but I prefer the single point for shooting from some awkward positions. Just preference. I think the sling I run though would the issue though. MS3 doesn't slack out enough to switch shoulders when it's a 2 point configuration.
MAD Hookup works well.
i agree. if it's an issued weapon and you can't take it apart, get the troy. otherwise, i have noveske plates on all my guns and they're low-pro and cheap.
FWIW, i think a two-point sling is a better way to go.
I've seen a lot of guys take a very unpleasant hit to the gonads when transitioning using a one point. Not to mention when they try to move and shoot with a one point.
The two point allows a very secure "holster" fit for your long gun, and allows a better transition when you have to go to a sidearm.
As always, YMMV.
