Not exactly "keymod", but a lot of fundamental similarities...

A KeyMod™ interface can easily be added to a pistol's front end. Like the HK PCAPS, the female interface could be a simple "hand-loaded insert" into the pistol's mold. The KeyMod™ interface would be a lot sleeker in design than the cheese grater Pic rail. On a 1911 type pistol, it could be easily machined into the front spring housing.

I just got a 13" KMR URG along with a short keymod VFG. I am very impressed in how easy it mounts and just how sturdy it feels. This thing is rock solid. The Picatinny rail panels also lock-up solid with very little effort. At first I got hung up on the look of the keymod ( I have it on shelving behind me) before I thought about how good this mating system is. After looking at it up close on the rail the esthetics are very nice, kind of grows on you. With my quad rail I had to use panels to deal with the cheese grater, but with this rail the only reason I will ad panels is if the heat issue becomes a problem, but with all these openings I can see where it would have great airflow around the barrel. I can not see myself going back to a quad rail after this keymod setup.
But then you would have a hole for BS to get on your spring and barrel.
I don't think that one slot on the dustcover is that big of an issue. Full pic rail? Yeah, but that's the pistol designers fault.
You know what we need? A keymod adapter for a picatinny rail.
Then we could attach a picatinny rail section to the keymod adapter that's on a picatinny rail and have a picatinny-keymod sandwich.
... but that would be an open-faced sandwich, which requires a fork and knife to eat. Not as good as a picatinny-keymod-picatinny sandwich, which is more portable and easier to eat.
I don't know what I'm talking about anymore.
One thing I don't like about pressing female keymod sections into a frame is that crap can get inside and would be very difficult to remove, unlike keymod on rails. So if it were done (say on the bottom of a pistol), you'd almost need polymer "rail" covers to take up the slots.
Also as mentioned in another thread, it seems difficult to make something like a x300 for keymod without adding significant (percentage wise) height to it or adding significant length to it to mount it. I'm not a mechanical engineer though, so maybe ESK has it already figured out? The BCM KM VG works because it's essentially a lot of vertical dead space that can be utilized for mounting hardware without any negative impact to functionality. An x300 has something like 2mm of space used for the picatinny mounting interface. Adding more to that would preclude its use from, say, a 12 o'clock mount on a theoretical 12 o'clock keymod interface infront of fixed iron sights.
