I'll post a pic if I get the blessing.

Well let's see....last summer at approximately 11am CST I was upstairs on my computer and my wife was out gardening flowers in the
back yard. I heard screaming and our GSD barking hysterically trying to break through from the downstairs to the backyard.
I ran outside to see six pit bulls circling my wife growling and snapping at her as she screamed and held them off with a garden rake.
I let the dog out and ran into the bedroom where I "urgently" grabbed my AR15 and ran back out the door and put a red dot on the biggest
one.......
I can think of three or four other occasions in the last 35yrs where the word urgent aptly described my need for a rifle or firearm....
Weather a civilian would ever get his rifle hot enough for gloves in a defensive scenario is an entirely different discussion but I don't understand where you're coming from when you say that you can't see why a civilian would need to grab a rifle for defensive purposes.
I use a carbine for home defense. I feel comfortable with it and I know it will stop whatever I need it to. I also like that a flashlight is attached right to my firearm so I don't need to worry about grabbing one.
The major issue I can see with using a system like KeyMod in the military is people will lose the small attachment pieces over time. For instance; the KAC RAS is supposed to be a complete kit with rail covers and a VFG. These pieces have basically been thrown away/lost/stolen over the years and now there is a random assortment of small rail pieces and a handful of VFGs sitting in Arms Rooms all over the Army. I had to provide the VFGs my guys use from my personal collection. Same with PEQ tape switches.
I don't see it being a good idea going to something modular like this for the Big Army. We WILL **** it up. We have the uncanny ability to do so and we don't even have to try at it. The problem is the lack of accountability at the unit level for small pieces of BII and also the asinine acquisition process we have to go through to get shit. I can't even get batteries...how the hell am I going to get a lost rail segment or light attachment?
We can have these wet dreams all we want, but I am highly skeptical we'll ever see modular rails for general ground forces.
Dude, let's stay with the conversation here. I didn't say I didn't see why a civilian would need to grab a rifle for defensive purposes. I said I don't see a scenario where I would need to grab a rifle for defensive purposes. It would be stupid for me to make that judgement for you, just as it would be stupid for you to judge my self defense needs. And I include pit bull attacks or home invasion fantasies in my little corner of paradise. Your little corner of paradise might be far more dangerous.
.
Have you thought about talking with someone about the fantasies you're having regarding someone breaking into your house?
Lastly, I never really thought of myself living in paradise. We only live here because my wife want's to be closer to her family. The area in which we live is actually pretty far from paradise. Do't get me wrong, the immediate area for a few square miles is pretty nice, however over the last 15 years it is changing for the worse. The very worst thing about this area is that it's only a short 10 minute drive away from one of the most dangerous cities in America and the major street my development sits off of, also happens to end 5 miles south in a neighborhood that is always ranked in the top 5 for being most dangerous in the US.
In the end, fantasizing about home invasions is the last thing on my list. I'm usually trying to remove images like these from my head. You see, my job gives me a front row seat to these EFFED up things that occur. I've seen some pretty horrific outcomes due to home invasions so fantasizing about my own would only bring back the images I try hard to forget.
Before this gets too far off topic, can we return to discussing how the OP is arguing against a piece of equipment he has never even handled?
Mark....What is that? Is it super secret stuff?
Pretty sure that's just a VIS-KM....and not sure why anybody in the .mil would want that?
