Take the upper off and yank out the BCG.
Look at the feed ramps. If not M4, and you see brassing, then your rifle is obviously touchy about what mags it will feed with. Options; machine M4 feed ramps in it, or sort mags for that rifle.
If no brassing, then most likely magazine. Magazines are cheap enough there's no point in trying to rebuild/upgrade/debug a marginal one. Ditch it, replace it, and get on with your life.
Maybe the fact I have a broken gas ring has something to do w it...

Throughout this whole time nobody pulled the bolt out?
Nope, hadn't gotten around to cleaning it yet. I stood the BCG up to test the rings on a whim and it failed miserably.
Thought "wtf?? No way! Not with such a low round count"
Started looking closer and saw that ring gap looked awful big

That seems to be an extraneous problem. You obviosuly have a gas-ring-eating carrier. Welcome to the club.
Buy lots, because that carrier demonstrates it will eat them like breath mints.
I'm not sure it is the cause of the earlier problem, but maybe.....
I depends on how smooth the carrier interior is. if properly honed and polished before chroming, it is a smooth surface. if not,t hen it is a rough surface, plated with a very hard material.
In that case it will simply chew rings to nothing.
While not brand-specific, the better brands will less often exhibit this problem.
Old mag is most likely culprit.
As a tip, always bring more than one mag when shooting your rifle. Preferrably known reliable mags from Magpul, Lancer, etc.
ETA: just saw your BCG/gas ring post. It should actually still work even with one gas ring. But if it continues to eat up rings, then your bolt/carrier is out of spec.
I had the same issue with an Rguns BCG. Lesson learned.
