Shipping high capacity AR mag to LE in California
So being as this is my first post, Im really not sure where to put it. If this is the wrong place, feel free to move it or take it down.
Anyway, I am selling a Surefire 60rd mag and a guy from California wants to buy it. He claims he is LE and has showed me his ID for proof. I am curious if it is legal for a private party to ship a high capacity magazine into California to a Law Enforcement officer.

First it is 100% legal for you to do so and here is a link to the relevant legislation stating so:

As to why you would use a middleman and not dealer direct there are several reasons.
1- Buying direct from Surefire is expensive, all of their items that they sell direct are considerably more expensive than purchasing them from a dealer. Don't get me started on why you should not order from Botach......
2- You don't always want to order through your department because (this may come as a surprise to you non-CA) many crackpot departments in liberal cities do have an anti-gun bias, and the management may question why you are buying extra mags or gun accessories other than what is issued to you. One day they find out you are buying 60 round mags, the next day you are being referred for mental health consultation for violent tendencies and supposed stockpiling of weaponry.
It is totally safe and legal to sell to any CA sworn Peace Officer as stated in the link and telling people not to do so is doing a disservice to the good guys.
Not trying to be confrontational at all but just by looking at the link you provided this stands out to me... "The peace officer must present a valid peace officer identification card and the DEALER must retain a copy of the identification card on file."
The dealer part stands out to me simply because I know how specific they are when choosing the wording when writing laws so they are not left open to interpretation or manipulation. For the record I fully support LEO's and am trying to do a disservice to no one.
With that being said... I completely agree with both of your points however this person is a non LEO who lives out of state and is not a dealer I think it's a perfectly valid statement to say he should not do something that could have possible legal ramifications until he is given proof that it is perfectly legal.
