How's that saying go... Pictures or it didn't happen? Yeah, that one.

Did this suddenly become arfcom where someone must not be telling the truth because you disagree with them? :)
Here's my 2009 BCM carrier. Staking just like the spike's in the OP.

Trust, but verify. If you're going to claim something then you should be willing to back it up. You did, so props.
It's a little hard to tell with the angle on the first one, but it does look less than optimal. The second one looks okay. There's at least more material pushed into the screws than on the OP's Spikes BCG.
ETA: With the regard given to BCM, I just thought it would be useful to see pictures of it. My attempt at mocking the common "pics or it didn't happen" line may not have come across with the levity intended.
Honestly, either of the BCGs in the originating post seem fine (though of course the second looks more squared away). If I had a carrier with staking that bugged me, I'd just knock it in a bit further with either a borrowed MOACKS or with a punch and hammer - not all-out "send it back."
It's always better to stake it so hard you bend the screw. It'll never come out if it's bent.
First pic was fine.
It's tough to say if this is the case because the lighting is rather poor in the original picture. The amount of material against the screw head looks the same to me if you only look at the thin part right next to the head. If more force was used to perform the staking, the spike's carrier may actually have even more displaced material further down around the sides, which isn't visible from the top.
Anyway, I still stand by my original statement. In my opinion the spike's carrier in the OP has more than adequate staking. If you disagree, that's cool. I'm not wasting any more time on this thread. :)
And for the record, I only use BCM carriers and bolts.
wow...Im surprised by the staking (or lack thereof) on those BCM carriers/keys. Doesn't look anything like the BCM carriers I have/ have seen etc. I imagine all of the carriers pictured in this thread would get the job done, but I wouldn't be ok with any of them (aside from the example of the properly staked key). In my experience, the staking of the gas key is truly important. One could argue the importance of a staked castle nut (im a staker, myself), but all of the loose keys ive ever seen were not staked. :)
The photo isn't great but the Spikes does look a little light. The BCMs, however, look sufficient. Look at the first photo specifically... you can clearly see a good amount of metal displaced into the bolts.
The "good stake" photo is reminiscent of some Colt BCG's that I've had. IIRC, their stakes appear to have pushed metal up and over the bolts. Different methods, different tools, both effective when done correctly.
