The Lite Rail III is/was available as a FSP version, 12.0 carbine gas. It was only sold on complete uppers because you couldn't use a standard FSB with sling swivel and bayonet lug. I made a Lite Rail 9.0 FSP carbine gas used with a modded FSB. You might be able to roll your own middy version but it depends if the holes in the rail line up with the taper pins.
My builds are about 50/50 FSP vs non, all RIS II rails. I prefer the fixed FSB for red dot uppers and flip ups for the others. A fixed FSB is okay with a 4X ACOG, but isn't needed.
Shit. On my go to guns, you won't find any rail mounted sights. Fixed FSB is the only option when it counts. I agree with your original question. I even email DD trying to find out if they had any left over RIS II Mk 18 FSB rails. No luck :(
All the other options out there are "I Beam" construction. I.E. the tall bottom rail. I friggin HATE the feel of those rails.
