I really hope they make a 9mm rail gun. I know there are a few of us who are still on the fence with regard to 9mm 1911's. Paging Euro and Wake. :neo:

I'd buy a 9mm rail gun.
I'd also be happy with a 9mm O1991.
I'd buy the shit out of an XSE Series 70 9mm lightweight compact, with or without rail.
Yeah I'd buy a 9mm CRG real fast. He said a lot of models so I'm hopeful.

I'll be down for a Gold Cup...
I love Colts, but damn, they're late on this one.
I don't know. It seems to me there still is a void in the 9mm world that needs to be filled. If the Springfield RO had normal sights, I would have one. Currently the Springfield Custom Shop 9mm Operator from Warren Tactical was at the top of my 9mm want list. But if Colt makes a 9mm rail gun, and it's in the $1000-$1200 range it will be a huge hit. Who else makes a quality production 9mm in that price range? Seems every good 9mm 1911 is pushing $2k from what I've seen.
Looks interesting, and its almost as good looking as a "Real 1911" 45 cal that is. Seriously, I have thought about the 9mm 1911, and probably end up with one some day, but for some reason I still think a 1911 should be 45.
It seems that a 9mm 1911 would have all the same, lets say non positive issues many associate with the 1911 platform, heavy, limited capacity, and the ever finicky/ not reliable comments. Do most of you see this as an alternate caliber in the 1911 for CCW or just another range gun?
Either way, I still think the 1911 is a thing of beauty, and one of the finest pistols ever made, there is just something about one that I will always love.
My reasoning for wanting a 9mm 1911 is that I don't currently own a 1911 (blasphemy I know), and all my pistols are 9mm. I really have no desire to buy any other calibers. I already have a good carry gun, and I have 2 full size pistols that hold 18 or 20 rounds already depending on the magazine. The 1911 would be a range gun mostly, but at the same time I want something that could be used as a defensive gun if needed.
**** that 9mm stuff, I'll take that Gold Cup National Match he's holding and be on my way.
I would want a 9mm with a ramped barrel, Colt has been reluctant to do that with their 5" 1911s--even their 10mm.
It'd be nice if they also made a very robust framed gun that would make a good 9x23 conversion platform. So far their only good option for that is their 38 Super gov't--which needs the frame cut to accept a 9x23 ramped.
You CAN run one without a ramp, since the 9x23 is a thick cartridge, but I'd rather not.
I have wished for 9mm from Colt for some time. I went and bought a Colt .38 super auto that I just love. I was thinking about getting a 9mm barrel fitted. I think just spending the money on super brass that I would spend on the barrel fitting is a better option since I reload.
Colt, how about a lightweight commander in 9mm or .38 super auto? Make mine blued please..
New 9mm Colt 1911's are available, I found mine at the Ronnie Barrett's Outpost Armory in Tennessee. I bought it in September of 2013 and my 14 year old daughter loves shooting it so much I gave it to her. I have about 300 rounds through it and it shoots great! My only problem with it is no ambidextrous safety. I was told that Colt makes a lot of these for the Australian market and that is why they are hard to find.

How have I never known about the O1992? I don't remember seeing it on Colt's website.
Look's like there's gonna be Commander Rail Gun's as well, both steel and lightweight.
Meh...
It depends on what your standard of reliability is. Not to beat a dead horse or unreasonably trumpet the merits of a plastic pistol but plastic is pretty darned durable and can take a hell of alot of abuse and neglect. I like simplicity so i carry plastic service weapons.
I no longer own my 9mm 1911 but what i can say say is that it was THE most fun gun i have ever owned, period, end of story. It was a genuine joy to shoot and play around with but never in a billion years would i want to carry a 5 inch steel gun. The gun was absolutely 100% reliable in every way, shape and form BUT the magazines needed to be babied. Often times, when removing a magazine from a pouch, i would have to manually push the first round back in order to properly seat it in the magazine so that it would load properly into the gun.
This was just something that bothered me because even running stages with five reloads and all of those magazines coming out of pouches and going into the gun i NEVER had a mag related malfunction.
So, the point is, i didnt "feel" comfortable with the gun or platform as a self defense weapon. Could it be made to work? Absolutely but that will be up to the individual based upon how anal they want to be with their chosen carry gear.
As an aside, i ran the gun with Dawson Metal form 10 rounders, wilson 10 rounders and the tripp cobra 9mm magazines. All of these mags had a quirk somewhere in some way shape or form.
Doesn't say whether any of them will be in 9, but looks promising.

The rear sight can be swapped for a Harrison rear.

I replaced the one on my .45 RO and eventually will change it on my 9mm RO.
CRG in 9mm would interest me; otherwise I'll stick with my RO 9mm.
My experience reflects this. Magazines can be a little sensitive - for me it was when I had 10 rounds in it, I would have to push the top round back before inserting it if the top round came a little forward. Stick to 9 rounds in a 10 round ETM or Tripp and no problems. Wilson said they were working on a new 9mm mag so hopefully that will remedy some of the problems.
The gun only has to work for the mags on you, so I can't see it being a huge problem for carry. Hell if it means for more trigger time though, I'm all about the 9mm for practice. Will definitely be picking up one of Colts 9mms for a custom build.
I have an STI Duty One 5.0. It has been 100% with metal form mags, whether that be the 10 round or the 9 rounders it came with. I tried some wilson's because they were deemed the penultimate awesome mags for a 9mm 1911 but they wouldn't feed even downloaded. The only thing I didn't like about the gun out of the box is the single sided safety and the recoil system that came with it just because it is harder to take down. I did replace it with a standard recoil system and an 11 pound recoil spring and it functions just as reliably as the original.
Frankly I think many overlook STI as they think of only their 2011 models.
While I agree with you on a few points, the 1911 platform in 9mm (or .38 Super for that matter) is a joy to shoot, cheap on the wallet, and overall a great gun. The 1911 is best known in the .45 caliber version, but is in my opinion just as excellent in any other caliber. I think that Colt will hit one out of the park with these guns... Now I'm just waiting on a 9x23mm offering...
Not sure if it has been mentioned here or elsewhere but will this be the same size as the .45acp 1911? I'm just wondering if I will need new holsters.

I think almost every serious 1911 pistolsmith I've spoken to has concluded the exact opposite: it is a liability in any caliber other than .45acp. It was designed around that ammunition and everything the gun does is based on that round. That said, hopefully the technology has caught up to where a reliable 1911 can be made in this caliber. Hopefully the guys who really ring 1911's out with duty/serious use in mind will be able to give us solid feedback on its viability.
I've tried 9mm in Wilson, STI, Springfield Custom, and Para. None of 'em ran good enough for very long to be something I would consider for a real world usin' gun. I couldn't even shoot 'em in competition because I just lost faith in the gun and my shooting suffered.
9 and 40 is just hard to do unless you load 'em long and stay on top of magazines. They're sensitive. 38 Super, 9X23? All day. The cartridge overall length is perfect to function in a 1911 and they do well.
Trying to figure out how this thread: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...m-Colt-Defense will affect the development of these 9mm 1911s. Anyone have some info on that?
Wasn't this the point of Springfield's EMP design? They market it as a 1911 engineered from the ground up to specifically accommodate the 9mm (or 40) vs swapping a 45acp 1911 barrel with a 9mm conversion barrel and magazines and calling it good. I've never fired the EMP nor do I know its reliability vs the 9mm versions mentioned above. I'm curious if Colt will follow suit, hence my previous question re: frame size. (I could have been more specific, I guess.)

My experience with EMPs (only 2 o them) is that they don't run reliably through a high round count course (whether that represents a useful measure relevant to carrying it is debateable). One went back for an overhaul by Springfield and still didn't run with anything like Glock/HK/MP like reliability, and one became a safe queen.
Wondering if there is a hi cap option coming.
