How well do Lancer mags compare with Pmags? I'm starting to compile a to-do list for gear upgrades for next season competition and windowed / clear mags are immediately at the top of that list. (As a measure to avoid starting stage w/ less than full mags.) Whatcha think?
The Lancer L5 AWM gets great reviews and when the guy on TOS who did the torture test with mags they held up extremely well.
HOWEVER, you mentioned the clear mags....I have 5 of the clear Lancer AWM 30 round mags and I won't be buying any more. When there are 2 or maybe 3 rounds in the mag they don't always drop free. What happens to me is 2-3 rounds in the mag, tilt muzzle up a bit, hit the mag release...doesn't drop free. This is across multiple magazines and multiple lowers (Colt and Aero). No other magazines I have exhibit this. My working theory is that the plastic isn't quite as stiff/strong/whatever....2-3 rounds is sufficient to bulge the sides but not heavy enough to overcome the bulge. Empty or with 1 round, drops free. 4+ rounds, drops free.
FWIW
Or the opaque Lancer L5 AWM. They consistently have great feedback. I have those too...no issues at all. But no you can't go wrong with PMAG and the Gen2 30 rounders can be had at ridiculously great prices right now.
Yes those are NHMTG mags sold by DPMS. I got a 10 pack from gunmagwarehouse when there was a thread about them here not too long ago. Haven't even opened them yet though.

Right before Sandy Hook they did a big Black Friday sale on their AR through Dick's Sporting Goods. oversold, so lots of people had rain checks. Sandy Hook happened and a lot of those rain checks got cancelled. I think they got store credit, not refunds. Obviously pissed off a lot of folks.
Re: Lancer AWM, the non clear seem to be as good as Pmags. Slightly different feel of the plastic and texture, but pretty solid.
Ironically I have 4 Tapco mags (first mags I had, didnt know better) that are my go to range mags and no problems after about 2000 combined rounds.
Edit: See below for better details; I'm mixing up the Dick's fiasco with Troy's.
Off on some key details, I got one of the troy ar's, have since flipped it
I believe it was solely an issue with dicks sporting goods, and that they also screwed over troy.
I wasn't even looking for an AR, but did want the ruger 10/22 takedown, cabelas was doing a door buster price but I called and was told they only had a few and the line was already wrapped around the building.... So don't bother
I got the bright idea of calling around and dicks said they would price match, I found out about the troy AR deal, and the smoking price on mossberg 500 and Remington 700.
The problem was, dicks sold all these guns, but then gave everyone else rain checks on the prices, and I've never heard of anyone else doing that, they had tons of backorders
Sandy hook happened, dicks cancelled the orders, gave refunds, and $100 gift cards. People got pissed that troy didn't personally honor the price, which I've also never seen a company do
*the sovereign citizen types then got mad that troy hired the fbi swat guy that had been a spotter at ruby Ridge
***I did a 4 day class and the troy mags (and AR) worked flawlessly for me, but since magpul sets the standard (and may have the best run company, see their mag purchase policy), I'd have to put them first
