SA MC Operator vs Colt Rail gun.
I own a CRG, and while I have not owned an MC Op, I have owned several SA 1911s. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong.
While Colt small parts are higher quality, SA parts are still quality and get the job done. If MIM bothers you (I don't think it should) then get the Colt, which uses fewer MIM parts.
I have no experience with Colt CS, but I have lots of experience with SA CS. This is not because I have had more issues with my SA guns. I love SA customer service. They have always taken excellent care of me, which is something I appreciate in a company and always report to others.
A big difference between the two is the firing system, which hasn't been mentioned. The CRG has a firing pin safety. If this bothers you ( I don't think it should), then get the MC.
Another difference between the two is the frame/slide material. The MC is carbon steel, and the Colt is stainless. If you are afraid of stainless steel galling (I don't think you should be), then get the MC.
I'm not 100% certain it is on the MC, but SA also has a proprietary front sight dovetail. Since it may already have NS this probably doesn't matter. Their front sight blade height varies as well, so this must be taken into consideration when replacing the rear sight. Many of the aftermarket sight MFGs including 10-8 have options for tall replacement rear sights.
Personally, I believe that Colt makes a higher quality production gun, but I am biased. I still own SA guns and wouldn't hesitate to buy more. Honestly I think it comes down to which one you like better. I'm a Colt fan boy, so if I had to choose it would be easy. But I'm also with Pappabear, I'd get both. I don't think you can go wrong.
