Rank the following by value. (Below is my ranking from most to least important in regards to a semiauto can).
-Mount/locking mechsnism (3)
-POI shift (2. I know other factors play into this.. barrel length and can weight)
-Accuracy (1. This will be for taking game and precision shooting at longer distances. Got to make the shot count.)
-Blowback on semiautomatic weapons (9. Going on bolt guns. Maybe a semi 308 if I ever buy one. Its not really on the short list)
-Signature (flash etc.) (7)
-Durability (5)
-Customer service/support (6. Does anyone not take care of their customers?)
-Weight (4.)
-db reduction (8. This doesnt really matter that much, as no subs will be shot through the rifle. Just magnum rounds for the most part. I have other setups for being quiet)
-Price (as long as its under 2k, I dont care)
-If the cool kids are running these (wait, people care about this.. And who are these cool kids everyone keeps talking about :) )
You could jumble 1-4 up and I would still be happy.
FWIW, the SOCOM762-RC is rated to 300 RUM and doesn't loose much db's on the higher pressured rounds due to how SF designed it (around full power military loads). Where it sucks is with low pressure subsonic rounds (i.e. 300 blackout). I use pistol cans on 300blkout subs so this is no way a factor in my decision.
I know you would like to avoid a 338 can, but if decibels is more of a concern over length/weight then that is the way to go. I would probably skip the 30CB9 as it is more geared towards 308/6.5 creedmoor. (thanks for the advice)
I have a 300 RUM and decided to go with a TBAC 338BA as my precision/hunting can. It honestly doesn't feel much heavier then my SOCOM762-RC. (good to know. The RC was on my original list that I am still considering due to my great experiences with the 5.56 RC)
