They released pics of this yesterday (SHOT Show teaser I'm sure).
Anyone laid eyes/hands on this pre-release? It looks like a solid tool.

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...0425999ab3.jpgLooks good for someone who is a professional. Me, I just use padded vise jaws on the RE or a mag block.
I would like one of these lowers though
I saw that too. Interesting.
I am more interested in the photos of their super reaction rod. They have now provided a way to secure the upper with what looks to be tabs (they call it a pre-loading system) in the ejection port opening. They posted on another forum that this super reaction rod is to "fulfill the need of an advanced armorer who frequently works on AR15/M4 platforms with over torqued, seized or Loctited barrel nuts. The Super Reaction Rod works by pre-loading the barrel extension lugs to the lugs of the Super Reaction Rod to eliminate movement created by adding torque to the barrel nut while at the same time fixing the upper receiver in place. Having the barrel extension mated to the Super Reaction Rod lugs and fixing the upper receiver before torqueing will remove stress that could be placed on the index pin".
The tabs can be removed to allow work in a 360 degree rotation like the original reaction rod. $175 MSRP seems steep to me, but then I have no idea how much additional work the "super" requires.
I'm pretty sure this product release will bring back all the debate about stress on the index pin caused by using the original reaction rod.

The ejection port solution is way better than what I was thinking about adding a tab to fit into the upper receiver gas-key track. Brilliant! Mr. G made the RR more versatile in the one way it could be better: also securing the upper. And it keeps the ability to rotate the upper *360 for work at different angles. Notice the benefit of also securing the upper is discussed in terms of ABNORMAL circumstances of disassembly, e.g. fused threads, over-torqued barrel nut, etc. The regular RR is perfectly safe for normal assembly/disassembly at regular toque specs.
The SRR would be a great choice for some of the corrective work I've done. Always easier to do it right the 1st time. ;). I'm definitely watching both!
All Geissele had to do was put a raised channel on the top of the reaction rod to hold the upper like the one I used at Windham Weaponry. The reaction rod would be using the charging handle slot from the rear of the receiver to the front. They also could of put a guide rod on it also to align your gas tube . But again it would be around 400.00 ;).
I have a lot of stuff hanging around in my garage. No kidding, the mountain bikes are usually hung adjacent to my floor mounted vice. I use my reaction rod (a Botach clone) almost exclusively mounted upright in my floor vise. I appreciate the fact that I can just lift, twist, reset and continue to work without moving stuff. The raised channel you speak of would preclude that. On the new one, it looks as if the fixtures that fit into the ejection port are removable, so for the 90% of the time you aren't dealing with a stubborn barrel nut, the reaction rod retains its versatility.
At least that is the way I see their methodology.
If you had a raised rib on top of the rod it would prevent rotation of upper...allowing only one working position. As it is now you can rotate 360 degrees allowing multiple angles to work.
What's the advantage of this gizmo over a regular mag block? It's sure to have a high dollar price tag in comparison

you only need to move it around if your a do it yourselfer at home ...professional armorers like myself do need to move it around when its on the spud.
I still would like the one that Wyndham Weaponry uses, even if it limits rotating the upper. They have discussed having them made but the cost would be $300-400. They commented on TOS that the new Geissele RR looks like it would do a good job at a reasonable cost. The WW looks bomb proof.

I really like Geissele gear and I think the reaction rod is the best thing since sliced bread, but this looks like a solution in search of a problem. Or, maybe I'm missing something. I have built a fair number of lowers and done just fine with a mag well block.
I still use the old reaction rod, looking forward to getting my hands on the super though.
