I've owned my older Springfield Pro since 2007ish. I bought the older gun used, and it was tight enough. Its serial number is in the 700 range.
A month ago I found another pro at a local gunstore that had it for what it would retail for. Considering how these guns have a long waiting list and I like the one I have, It seemed like a no-brainer to buy a second one.
The new gun's serial number is in the 4400 range.
While I worked the slide before I bought it at the store, when I got home and handled it more did I realize how unbelievably tight this gun is. Working the slide is like working an exercise machine on much too high of a level. I cannot imagine that the FBI gets guns so tight that they have to break in.
I lubricated the gun without taking it apart and worked the slide a bunch of times. I have no idea how a gun this tight can even function reliably. According to the certificate that came with it, its date of manufacture is Sept 18, 2014.
My older Springfield has a nice glossy Birdsong finish. I am not sure what the finish is on the new Pro, but it is more like a mat finish and is not shiny at all. The old gun has a Nowlin barrel, while the new gun is marked NM, so I assume that it is a Springfield made barrel.
I have not fired the new gun and am not sure if I plan to.
Below are pictures of the older Springfield Pro on top with the black Pachmyer grips with the new one with the factory wood grips.
