No. What I meant was I had to qualify at 500 meters so I know the basis of fundamentals. Which will help when I judge the optic. Does it track, etc.? Was obviously not a sniper or the best marksman. My only experience behind excellent glass was trijicon on the range to qualify and personal optics from friends who had the opportunity to spend 2 g's. I'm not sure what was confusing you at all Jack?
As jack would say...."Wait...What?", with his held tilted and drool from his mouth.
The only expensive glass options I have owned have been trijicon but that isn't really a scope like the one being talked about on this thread. I have played with a good amount of high dollar optics before just never had one zero'd for me specifically. I still know what a good scope has and what shit scopes will have. Sorry for the confusion.
I should not have used the word experience. A better word would have been time with expensive glass options. Experience made it seem like I shot USO for a living which isn't the case. Just want to clear it up before another internet Thor comes raining thunder onto the thread.
It was just joking dude. Im not an internet tough guy but I like to joke around. You may have taken it that way, as most would. That is not the case Mr. Leuba, you can be at ease now. Sorry about the confusion I put you through earlier, I did not intend to do that and should have worded my statement better. I will give my past history just to clear the air with everyone. I served 4 years in the marine corps, deployed once for 13 months, got out in 2012. Have a good amount of training on an ACOG but that is where it ends, as far as training is concerned. I have shot through high end optics like USO and NF but never had my own to zero and play with whenever I chose. We did shoot at least once a month and I know what good glass should look and feel like. I really hope this helps, Mr. Leuba.
I have one on a 17" 6.5 Grendel AR and another on a 22" 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun. The glass is pretty decent and in bright light I can't immediately tell the difference between the ACSS and any of the Nightforce or Vortex Razor scopes I've owned. I'm not a glass snob anyway, so if the glass is good enough (and it is) I don't worry about it. The reticle is interesting but requires some getting used to for folks that have shot mostly mil-dot or mil-hash scopes. FFP is nice to have and the illumination is OK (wish more of the reticle were lit). The knobs have some lash, so if you want to shoot fast you're really down to using the holdovers on the reticle. No zero stop, turn counter, etc.
It's a nice, useful scope for the price point, but it's not going to replace a Nightforce ATACR FFP or Vortex Razor Gen II if you need the features those higher-end scopes offer.
ETA: As an aside, the Strelok ballistic calculator app includes the ACSS reticle and allows you to map out your load's drops -- so for example, you know that your .264 123gr Amax bullet with 2500fps MV actually maps to the 300 meter reticle hash mark at 279 meters, etc.
I gave it a try and returned it for a refund. There's was some wacky shit going on with both the windage and elevation adjustments. But that was with my copy. YMMV
