On what planet? Neither have the quality that I would consider to be "fine"

"fine" in that they will both shoot bullets as well as any other random AR.
Actually one of the better shooters in El Paso uses a Windham, and it's not heavily modified either. I believe it only has a better trigger and a muzzle break added to it. He competes with it at both local and state level competitions. He is a skilled shooter, is consistently better than me, and I win local competitions. The rifle shoots accurately and gives him consistent reliability.
There are lots of options out there, and if someone wants to say they prefer Colt over that brands mentioned, I respect that and in no way disagree. But if we cut to the chase, I bet there are very few people out there who can out shoot their rifles. However, there is an endless number of people who go around posting bold opinions in 10 words or less about how something sucks.
That's why comments like this...
...are both true and completely dismissed most posters.Quote:

Or why people who form opinions about gun by actually shooting them, generally are more positive than negative. The Military Arms Channel, which only has about 300,000 subscribers, liked the rifles after actually shooting them.

Windham and Armalite and DPMS and RRA, and Oly Arms et al. have well deserved reputations as trash.
On this forum, we try to stick with advice that is quality and not the average gunstore BS about how all ARs are equal. They are not equal, and Grant was right in his original post that the two mentioned brands suck. The why of it has been endlessly laid forth in thread upon thread. Search and ye shall find.
And just because a dude in El Paso uses a Windham (Bushmaster), doesn't mean that it's is a good rifle. Carlos Hathcock could probably outshoot most gunrange commandos with a Bushy, too; that does not mean it is a decent weapon.
Every time I see these threads I cringe. Neither company deserves a persons hard earned money. Why companies insist on still using cheap buffers, dremelling feed ramps into uppers as opposed to having them made correctly, using stupid semi-auto carriers that serve no purpose, failing to stake carrier keys, etc.. never ceases to amaze me.
Recent pics. DPMS carbine. This was done at the factory and is a fairly new gun. The after thought feed ramps can be clearly seen. Hammer pin broke during a range trip with a few hundred rounds.

Well I guess if you have nothing to add, you can always say something bad about DPMS. Or something witty. Or tell people to just read what other people have written.
People get so rankled when I make a statement that is less than absolute.
I'd rather spend ~$200 less and get an s&w sport or rugers new DI gun.
OR
spend ~$100 more and go with a 6720 colt, or maybe even bcm.
