Out of MIL-Spec Receiver?
Hello all. Just thought I would pass on this interesting tech tid-bit I stumbled upon. Oh, and for you that want to build a weapon from a new Smith & Wesson M&P receiver, read on. In my local Gun Shop the other day and I stumbled on a brand new Smith & Wesson M&P15 receiver for sale. Price was good and I asked my dealer where he got it, as I am unaware that S&W sells empty receivers. He states that the Dist.(Unknown who) sold it to him with a firearm order. Well, I snapped it up and was as happy as a clam. About to walk out of the store when one of my gun store regular friends ask me about Colt AR15 replacement parts. I tell him what to look for and just as an aside, I look at the S&W receiver. Sure as hell!. .0172 action pin holes. Crap! my dream find, while not useless, is not what I want. My dealer is a good guy and lets me get my money back. I am not sure, but I believe that S&W M&P's are Mil-Spec dimensions, at least on the actions. We all know that S&W gets their receivers from Stag. I wonder if this is a mistake on a build order and S&W is dumping them on the market w/o telling anybody. Am I wrong? S&W owners, check it out and let us know. Thanx, and be well. Officer JL:D
