This is a very very very well known issue. There are other muzzle devices that have a ping to them that are of similar design, it is how it is. I'd rather deal with a little bit of a pinging so long as it does it's job as a flash suppressor.
Of my 3x Noveske rifles, only my 8.2" .300BLK/ AAC Blackout does it.
It doesn't "bother" me, but the resonance does last incredibly long and is a very... noticeable pitch. Probably there are some here who haven't experienced it.
If I check the chamber and drop the bolt, the tuning fork starts going.
One time I was talking to my friend after and he just started staring at it like WTF?!? and I reached up and pinched it to stop the "IIIIIIIING!"
It's pretty extreme.
I've got two Smith Vortex flash hiders and they do ping like a tuning fork. At first I noticed it but now I hardly notice it. They are awesome flash hiders but if the ping bugs you, swap it out for something a little less pingy. Prolly sell / trade quickly on the EE page.
Take a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut the prongs to three slightly different lengths. It should eliminate the tuning fork effect. I have seen writeup from a guy who did it on a blackout sucessfully. I imagine you may need to re zero afterwards.
Not that it will help with the pinging but the vortex doesn't need a crush washer. Take it out and see if the sound changes. The only vortex I have is on a 16" midlength and it doesn't ring.
How is the phantom? It looks different.
