I have seen about 5 different uppers that were so tight, you needed a hammer to knock the pins out. Over time the rear lug became worn from knocking the pin in and out repeatedly.

this is a really good idea for those guys I know who hate loose fit.

When the Accuwedge, EAR plug or other foreign object placed in the fire control group pocket- let me repeat that with emphasis- IN THE FIRE CONTROL GROUP POCKET begins to break down from age, vibration, solvents, lubricants and so on, where do you think the debris is going to go? Or, if that foreign object simply comes loose? That's right- into your Friendly Neighborhood Fire Control Group mechanism, resulting in strange trigger pulls, a weapon that won't fire, a trigger that starts doubling and tripling, or goes full auto until the mag is empty.Quote:
Accuwedge
Placing a foreign object in your FCG pocket is like using a floor mat in your car that's going to slide and bunch up against the pedals, or leaving a loose screw in the broom closet of a Blackhawk where it can wedge itself in the flight controls, just to fix an imaginary problem
Hypothetically could a sloppy upper to lower fit cause feeding issues?
Mag pic got me thinking
If but when these problems are happening to me (rattling, feeding issues, trouble lining up my nose again after a shot) I'm looking to get rid of that rifle in favor of something more friendly. Shirley a 6920 or a BCM would be in my immediate future. Maybe it's just me though.
ETA: I'm not being a snob. If I want & need one of these toys I want it to work properly.
When I transitioned to the AR-15 to shoot High Power matches years ago my first match rifle had a slightly loose fit between the upper and lower. Once I slung in tight, the looseness was not noticeable. When I purchased a second AR-15 I sought out a rifle with tight upper to lower fit. I did not notice any difference in accuracy at 600 yards between the two rifles.
If the rifle functions and shoots well I would not concern myself with a little play between the upper and lower.
I'm gonna be bold and say that the rifle itself is almost always the last factor at fault.
I just helped a new AR shooter clean a accu-wedge out of his FCG over the weekend. He had an older Colt rifle he bought from his Uncle and the FCG locked up on him. I saw a puzzled look on his face and asked if he needed help. I ended up removing the whole FCG, cleaned it and cleaned out the lower. His rifle had an accu-wedge that broke apart in several pieces. Friends don't let friends put foreign objects in their lowers. I've tossed a dozen wedges and ear plugs from friends ARs.
