I heard a rumor the mil was going away from the 5.56mm permenantly. any1 here this? The local dealer at a Gun Store made this claim. He thinks .223 will be in massive surplus in the future...

I'm not an industry insider, but I doubt a major change will be taking place anytime soon. If we've learned anything from our past errors in Korea/Vietnam it's that switching platforms (firearms and ammunition) during a campaign can result in many negative effects.
I'm trying to stock up. Even if the mil switches to a new round which is definitely a possibility if you watch the Military Channel at all, .223 is still going to be around for quite a while. It is what it is and I wish it were different but it aint.
I buy ammo for my department, for a case of .223 winchester 55 gr. fmj, the price just went up last month from 295. to 395. without so much as a wimper, no "sorry" no nothing, they said it will go up again in January. They said they would sell the left over m855's for 300. (used to be 195)
