My dealer says that this fall, prices will go up roughly 35% on ammo and accessories.
Just look at Copper futures. There's probably a direct relationship there.
How did your dealer come up with 35%! Copper has dropped a little in the past 30 days and only a little higher then last year. Lead is up after a big drop this year but still well below last years price. Ammo and reloading components have been going up about 3 to 5 percent per quarter for the last few years. I’m sure that prices will up this September but not 35%.
I had 2 different dealers tell me that they heard China was buying all of the lead and copper they could get hold of, and that is driving up prices. Maybe the lead is for the toys they are shipping back here.........
Somebody in precious metals should know something??
That is my issue as well.
35% sounds to me like someone is trying to take advantage of an already shitty situation. That is straight highway robbery!
Oh and BTW rallysnob here is a pic of my ride!

Every person I've talked with that sells ammo says they are being told by their distributors that even higher prices are coming. How much higher is anyone's guess. Not a single swing'n one of them has seen any indication that prices will drop or even stabilize.
There is a lag between raw material purchase and ammo hitting the shelves, so the increases in the past 12 months will be felt for the next 12 months at least even if prices nose dived today.
Much to the dismay of the wife, I'm buying as many surplus bullets as I have the money to get my hands on right now. I'm debating on stocking up on calibers that I don't even have rifles for at this point just in case.
Hey lildicdiesel, here's my whip...

Here is a link to what I was saying about China, also it relates that prices began going up after 911.

I look for them to really skyrocket! Trying to buy as much now as I can afford. I figure you can always get your money back.....
I take a contrarian point of view on the matter. That is, when "everyone" says ammo is going to keep going up, and you have dealers saying it's going up another 35% this fall, well that's when prices will fall.
Just my $.02
Stock Up Boys!!!!!
Ammo is as good as cash if you need to dump some.
Much like gas, regardless of the supply, once a price-point has been established by the consumer the prices will take a looong time to drop.
Best case scenario- prices increase with inflation.
At least that's what my crystal ball is tellin' me.
This whole thing SUCKS! Price comparison: A year ago I paid around $135.00 for a case of Wolf. Now it's $235.00. How can they justify steel ammo that's produced in Russia, going up that much other than a fleece? Barnual ammo was even cheaper then, but it's on par with Wolf now. :( Thank God I bought up a crap load last year.
Because the dollar sucks right now.

I think FEAR might be driving up the price of ammo as much as anything else. The more we stockpile fearing an increase in price the more we collectively drive up prices.
That said, I still need to buy a few more thousand rounds of relatively inexpensive .22lr for my Spike's Tactical 22 upper.
I'm already FEARing I won't be able to afford to heat my house this winter. Time to stock up on some propane before the prices go up. :(
This thread is like being back at ARFcom.
I'm not an industry insider, but I doubt a major change will be taking place anytime soon. If we've learned anything from our past errors in Korea/Vietnam it's that switching platforms (firearms and ammunition) during a campaign can result in many negative effects.
I'm trying to stock up. Even if the mil switches to a new round which is definitely a possibility if you watch the Military Channel at all, .223 is still going to be around for quite a while. It is what it is and I wish it were different but it aint.
I buy ammo for my department, for a case of .223 winchester 55 gr. fmj, the price just went up last month from 295. to 395. without so much as a wimper, no "sorry" no nothing, they said it will go up again in January. They said they would sell the left over m855's for 300. (used to be 195)
