This is the BCM that I would buy. Never before have you been able to buy a complete rifle with the BFH barrel.

Basically the same rifle three times. I'd buy them separately to break up the cost and upgrade the lower with a Geissele SSA and BCM Gunfighter Stock. So $585 for the lower + $755 for the upper w/ BCG = $1340 for complete rifle
Gotch thanks.
Colt and BCM are good, but for the home defense role, I wouldn't be looking at the heavy barreled versions like the SOCOM. Go with something with a lightweight barrel, like the Colt 6720 or BCM lightweight or ELW. There is no advantage to a heavy barrel for the roles you are filling. Much better to have a rifle that handles well.
Get a mid length gas system.
I have a pair of near twin BCM 14.5" middle notes with the BFH barrel and love em both. Very happy with my decision and I highly recommend BCM.
Either BCM or Colt. You can use the savings from the Colt to buy ammo. Both are fine rifles
What about the 14.5 vs the 16 inch. Any thoughts? The 14.5 is fixed I know, but I'm looking for tactical use, home defense, and having fun with my buddies. Any thoughts? Thanks again for all the help. Great site here..
Just go with the 16" more than likely down the road you'll want to experiment with hand guards and muzzle devices which will be much easier with the 16" than the 14.5". I have both and there really isn't that much difference between the two to justify the hassle if you end up wanting to change anything. Just my .02.
