The sillines from Oly, Bushmaster and DPMS doesn't come close but they get a C- for effort. All these companies like BCM, DD, Noveske, etc. are riding the coat tails of the guys who actually put in decades of work. I like those compaines and others like them, even own their products, but they are just capitalists who jumped on the post-GWOT money train band wagon; God bless them for it. If you don't believe me do a google search for Mr. Knight's Colt collection. You'll see more inovation than you can shake a stick at, from a time when it wasn't fashionable.
No one is questioning what they once did, but The fact that we are in the Golden age of ARs, and what have they done in terms of innovation since the Clinton AWB expired? When the AR boom happened, when the market that we have today was born where were they when everyone else found new and innovative ideas. They relied on military contracts and chose to ignore the needs of the civilian market for the most part.
When they needed to be competitive in the market, they weren't in terms of innovation. That's the issue that people have today, and after all the Financial trouble colt has been in that's the issue they have as well.
Does that mean any of us for a second think the colt makes a subpar product, absolutely not they still make one of the best base products. Colt Products sell they always will, but they should have a monopoly on the market given the Headstart that they had to begin with.

Lots of these new companies make cool stuff and really great stuff. But saying that Colt hasn't inovated much is bonkers. The 901 might not have been superbly executed, buy only the MWS is cooler and it's full of KAC parts.
Bringing up the bankruptcy is like how Barry brought up gun control last night, erroneous. Colt got screwed by powers above not within. Read more than just the headlines. The words under the headlines fill in a lot of info gaps.
Colt defense sure was in charge of those military contracts.
So what's your defense against Colt manufacturing?
Two companies, two roles at the time.
