I have a PSA stainless freedom rifle as a ranch blaster, about 2k rounds through it. But it's just a toy; I have like $440 in it. If your budget is $800 and it's your go-to rifle then the quality rifles being suggested are what I'd get.
Get a quality rifle with the good optics, light, sling, etc...
Then later pick up a bargain rifle to kick around so you don't run up the round count on your nice gun too fast.

For the sake of something different, I would get a PSA blem lower and a BCM upper. Priced it out the other day and it was around $750 with BCG and CH included.

There is no such thing as "my current budget". That's a copout used for instant gratification. If something is not in your budget save your money and then buy it.

Colt all day over those brands. All day and twice on Sunday.

No question the Colt is the best deal out there. You just cannot get that kind of quality at a lower price. I suggested a Colt OEM2 to a friend and he actually took my advice, then he put a KMR Alpha 15" on it (I installed it for him) along with a STR stock. "Buy once cry once" doesn't even apply here because the price is so low you don't have to cry. Believe me you will kick yourself someday for not taking advantage of the Colt pricing right now.
My bud loves his rifle, there is nothing like owning a quality firearm.

I've been planning a build for a while, but if I were just buying a rifle now (short of the very top end with money no object), it would definitely be a Colt OEM2.

I wish there was a way to transfer my experiences using the Colt 6933 for the past 9 1/2 years on SWAT, into individuals searching for their first AR, in order for them to accurately understand the level of reliability, quality and dependability that Colt Carbines offer. Monthly drills, shooting courses, thousands upon thousands of rounds, wearing out magazine after magazine on the hard deck, cleaning, shooting repeating, call outs in the rain, snow, sub-zero temps, tossed into trucks, gear stacked on it, the list goes on.
Yes My barrel on the work gun is shorter by a bit, however I own a 6920 as well. I said it above I will say it again. Just get the Colt and be confident that the roll mark on your rifle represents a company that has been in the, "Black Rifle" business since 1959. Colts have seen more combat, more service in Law Enforcement, than likely any other platform you could compare it to other than perhaps the AK variants.
Colt. Case closed.

Amazing, the number of people looking to cheap out with their price range set just below what a new Colt costs.
Someone once said, "Only a rich man can afford cheap tools". Buy quality, and you'll spend less in the long run. Colt's not the only quality brand out there, but it's the closest to your price range that is readily available anywhere AR15s are sold.
-
As others already said, Colt. For the difference in price, there really is no reason to get a "bargain" rifle. And if you decide to sell it later, that's the one people will want.

The Colt the Colt the Colt! Seriously, this one is such a no brainer... The other brands are what you buy before asking for advise. Colt/BCM is the proper application of advise and/or experience.
