SWFA SS 1-4x24 Tactical vs. Vortex PST 1-4x24

It was a viper pst 1-4. After looking through it it came down to swfa or vxr and the weight took me to the vxr. The swfa looks really nice though.

The clicks on the vxr are clean to hear and feel, easily turned by hand, but I havnt had them move and my gun is constantly moving around not in a case. I feel they could be improved a little, but are functionally sound. Though I have no other scopes to compare them with.

All 3 are great scopes, 2 are geared towards longer range with the reticles. It may help if you rank your priorities and mark where each scope falls in each priority. Obviously trying them out would help a lot. I'd try to find a local shop with them available to look through. Honestly, the only reason I went vxr over swfa was weight and the mtion sensor sealed the deal.. Other than that, the swfa looks almost perfect on paper.

0-300 yds is my intent for this setup...After looking at all of the 1-4 scopes what about using something like a 2.5-10 or 3-9 with a micro dot on an offset mount. This would still allow the use of both ranges the one downfall I see though is having to cant the weapon to use the micro dot. Just trying to weigh out every option before I drop the cash.

I can vouch for the SWFA lifetime warrantee. I bought a pre-owned but NIB SS 1-4x24 scope, and found there was a small flaw in the lens. I called SWFA told them I was the second owner, and had no receipt. They said send it in, and they would replace it. Ten days later, I had a new scope, and I like it a lot. I also have a Burris MTAC 1.5-6x42, and they are comparable in quality, but I like the SWFA reticle better, although they are both excellent scopes for the money. I don't have experience with the Vortex.

Ive got a good lead on a used SWFA 1-4x24 HD that I'm highly considering. Bit before I spend that kind of cash I like to weigh out all of my options. Im just having a hard time spending that much when the classic is so much cheaper.

I'm not LE but I would keep it simple. The offset stuff seems much more suited to a game gun.

My criteria was pretty simple. 1x on the bottom, very bright daylight illumination, substantial reticle for up close (EOTechish), caps for reduced worry while cased. I bought an MTAC and really like it.

I'm building a new rifle and have been reading threads such as this one trying to see what is out there and would feel a bit silly buying another MTAC but there doesn't seem to be a clearly better scope in that price range. That isn't to say that it is any better either. The chart mentioned above is a great idea. You are buying an $400 scope, all of them should be usable with no major issues.

Right now I'm leaning toward the SS HD for my new rifle. I'll have to wait a while for the cash. I'm headed off to go read about this motion sensor and auto off on the Leupold. I certainly wish the MTAC had that.

I like the idea of the motion sensor for a home defense type rifle. But my rifle will be in a case in the trunk so that feature is really needed in my application I will have plenty of time to get the rifle out and turn it on.

Is rear focal plane the same as first focal plane?

I would not want a 2.5-10x for that purpose. It's heavy, and expensive, especially once you add an offset rds.

Being in the trunk, I agree the motion sensor is useless for you.

I definately think 1-4 is what will suit you the best based on what you've posted. If you've got a good deal on the ss, I'd jump on it. You could always buy 2 and put whichever you don't want on the EE.

After everything I have read I think a first focal plane is the way I want to go for my application. However it is hard to find a first focal plane 1-4 let a lone one in my budget. I think the Burris Mtac is the only other one. I'm hoping the picture of the reticle on the SWFA site is not how it actually looks. From the pictures it looks hardly readable.

The MTAC is 2nd focal plane. I may change my mind for a 1-6x but for a 1-4x, it seems to me that 2nd focal plane is perfect because it keeps the reticle from getting so small. The BDC still is valid because you should really only use 1 or 4 power.

Ok I saw rear focal plane and assumed it was the same as first focal plane.
