Some of the 45 light weight commanders (O4840XE) have already made their way into the wild, I'm waiting for the 9mm.
Lw commanders sounds pretty sweet would like to check one of those out.
The commander would be awesome.
Not listed in that release but I'm liking the Combat Unit Pistol.

I'm seeing what appears to be an M45A1 frame, front strap checkering, and no forward cocking serrations.
Am I missing something?
Their website has one with a 3-hole trigger and front serrations so I'm not sure which it is. But basically, yeah, a CRG with front strap checkering, it looks like a more aggressive trigger guard undercut, nicer grips, and the dual recoil spring. They're saying it came with the help of Daryl Holland and Ken Hackathorn, which is cool, but it should have been one of their custom guns or something to really distinguish it from a basic CRG. And offer it in ****ing 9mm!

When are they shipping the lightweight commander rail guns, 04840RG they announced last year?
If it's an M45A1 frame instead of a standard CRG frame, that's a pretty big distinguishing feature right there. Not least of all because of the fun associated with finding holsters - particularly of the concealment variety - that work with them.
The trigger guard undercut looks the same as on the standard CRGs and M45A1 (and other Colt XSE-series pistols) to me, although that might just be the angle. And grips are a big, meh, for me, as I pretty much almost always inevitably replace the grips on any handgun with replaceable grips with something else.
The picture on their website made the undercut look more aggressive to me but I really didn't compare so who knows. I didn't see any mention of the CQB frame, but I don't know that they would. That would be s pain in the ass. And agreed on the grips. I like those more than most other stock offerings, but if I bought one, I'd put a pair of VZs on it anyways.

I like the new Rail Gun, and now I'm glad I have taken my time getting around to picking one up. I also like the 9mm LW Commander, but I REALLY wish they would do one in 38 Super. A new 38 Super LW Commander would be an instant purchase for me. I'm just kind of leery about 9mm 1911s still, though I would think that the lighter slide of the Commander would only help things.
Never mind, started new thread about 9mm 1911s.
Any idea if these new Colt 9mms use a ramped barrel or not?
Liking the Colt Competition in 9mm, but what is it w/the blue grips ???
Colt's color is blue. Just like Mossberg, Smith & Wesson, and FNH USA.
Look at their competition guns and you'll find that they like to use blue on them. (Mossberg used to have a 930 with a blue stock and handguard, IIRC. The same gun is now sold in a Kryptek Yeti dip. I think the 930JM is offered in black-and-blue. FNH has a trap-and-skeet version of the Winchester 101 - the SC-1 - with black-and-blue laminated stock and handguard. Plus their 3-gun-ready SLP shotgun is black-and-blue. And they had some SCARs with blue receivers and blue trigger housing groups for their three-gun team, although I don't know whether they were anodized and dyed that color or cerakoted - they appear to have been one-offs, in any event. Red is used by Benelli, H&K, and Noveske and is in evidence on the Benelli Custom Shop race-ready M2 and I remember Geissele posting a photo of red HK416 SMRs made for H&K's three-gun team. I seem to also recall seeing Noveske's three-gun team rocking red cerakoted N4 GenIIIs.)
Sort of like how Dodge Vipers are (or were) available in white with blue stripes and blue with white stripes (the national racing colors of the US). But less homage to the past, more about looking cool and race gun-y now.
The combat unit pistol looks really nice. I like the finish and it just looks high speed low drag. I love my long beach operator but these new colts look great.
Grant have you received any of the M45's in the Ion Bond finish?
The new combat unit is what is going to finally get me to buy a Colt 1911. It's what the CRG should have been from day one, a black M45 frame with the front strap high cut and checkered. Slide with Novak night sights and national match barrel fit to it. Colt hit a home run with this one!
Attachment 37270
Ditto on solid trigger but not a deal breaker for me.

I see them on Colt's website. Are these 70 or 80 series?
So I bought the new competition 45 and just picked it up last night. I’ll post some pictures as soon as I can, but the bottom line is that this is probably the highest quality production Colt I have seen in over 20 years. It really feels like a custom shop gun.
Everything is super tight and lines up perfectly, the finish is excellent, and the sharp edges I have come to expect from recent Colt’s are gone.
Forget your experiences with Colt over the last decade… It really seems like Colt QC has picked up and this gun has now become my instant favorite.
I’m not a Colt fanboy and don’t normally gush, but for the price I don’t think anything comes close to this gun. I am that impressed!
The only small nit-pick I have is the mainspring housing. Plastic? Still? Really?
Also, for those put off by the blue fiber front sight, it does come with spare green and yellow fibers. I’m going to try it out this weekend with the blue before making any changes.
Grant, any timeline estimate for when you'll have the new Colt Combat Unit listed on your website?
Would like to see some pics of the competition 45 looks pretty attractive, also interested in the LW commander, would jump no a LW full size with a ramped barrel from Colt. I think Springfield is the only one who makes them other than maybe STI. I like Colts offerings really hope they become a contender in the 1911 market again.

Grant.....will you be stocking the new Lightweight Commander? Thanks.
I see Colt STILL has not addressed the awful radius on their thumb safeties. Maybe this year they will at least put a recoil spring in the pistol that will allow it to run with duty ammo.
As far as thumb safeties goes, I just wish it was a forged single sided style like an EGW.
