Distant shots are an enormous advantage having an RMR.

The 3.5 dot is really great for taking longer shots. I don't find that it slows me down at all up close.
I'm in a similar situation for a glock 34 MOS. my dad wants to compete in 3 gun open class and I want to get him a rmr. I've looked at a 3.25 dot but I was leaning towards the 6.5 for his eyes to pick it up quicker and 3 gun is more speed than it is precision.
I have the RMR07 (6.5MOA) on my FNX45 tactical and I like it a lot. Considering its mostly my pistol for around the house the dot size doesn't matter much to me
I have the RMR06 (3.25MOA) on my G19 and I much prefer the 3.25 dot at 25 yards and out. You cant go wrong with either in my opinion but I would probably pick the RMR06 if I buy another for my G17.
