Indeed. Looking forward to having something for the MRO - it's doing fine without covers but I'll join the "not shooters" crowd and gets some to protect them just a little bit more. :p
I consider my self an avid shooter. and would much prefer a set of caps for when its not inuse. why not keep em clean and dust free when not in use?
Quite a big difference from wanting and needing. I had covers on my aim point, and all they did was add one more layer to overcome when making the rifle ready to shoot. Precision optics are generally not on rifles used to quickly defend oneself. In the case of the OPs, if he think it will make his life easier, the inner tube idea sounds like it would fit the need.
Suggestions of a positive nature appreciated.

I had these on both sides of a TA33. Worked just fine up. Lots of rain and mud during a Seattle carbine class, the covers worked well until the mud got on them, then I flipped them down and kept shooting.
When I get old I am going to cover my couch with plastic so you young punks don't mess it up.
