LaRue. Best bang for your buck.
I think the YHM Lightweight FF tubes are the best bang for you buck.
+1 for LaRue
daniel defense lite rail
DD Omega.
If youre going for the FF function and not the look of a 1 pc rail, then go with one of those 2pc FF rails. That way you get the benefits of a FF rail and the installation/maintenance convenience of a non-FF rail.
Midwest is the only one I know of but Im sure there are others out there.
So, sample size = 1 and you feel that's enough to recomend them?
I knew a guy in highshool that owned a Mustang II. Never broke down that I know of, never had any mechanical problems. Do you think he should then go around suggesting that everyone buy a Mustang II?
i like daniels defense rails. i like larue for mounts.
i'm sure the LT rails are nice, but i haven't used them myself, but looking at specs DD is lighter than LT, so that's what i go with.
i skip YHM whenever possible, but certain things like the 45 degree angle mount i have bought, just because there are less competing products in that area.
but there are LOADS of rails on the market, so i can be more choosy there.
??? Geesh. Rough day? The man is just passing on his personal experience with an item. That's how we have all learned from you, grant, and many others. Maybe I missed something (possible) but I didn't see the crime in his posts. If he's wrong the majority of posts here will drown out his opinion.
Lastly, I'm also looking at rails. Which one do you suggest and in which size?
I counter your sling swivel mount and raise you 3 ladder rail covers. ;)
All Daniel Defense rails come with 3 ladder rail covers.
Were I work that's about $35, about the same cost as a DD sling swivel mount FWIW.
Having installed hundreds of rails. Pretty much from ALL manufacturers. The only brand/type of rail that I can think of that I've never installed is a KAC URX rail (just the installation tool for it is several hundred $).
With what I have seen I highly recommend Daniel Defense, they have a rail for just about every application. My favorite rail from them is the RIS II MK18 rail, followed closely by the Lite Rail.
That is not an accurate statement.

FWIW, even with the stock parts it retains, AND adding in a QD swivel, the DD Omega even weighs less than the Larue. Inconsequentially less, but less all the same.
Which is fine, but it's an unqualified position that he then wants to go on and defend.
I know it's the internet and all, but people posting opinions about an item after owning only a single sample, and none of the competition, would be better to read and not type. At least if you're going to recomend something in that situation have the decency to be clear about the situation.
I think I had a sigline once that said "an unqualified opinion is useless" or something to that effect. Maybe I need to change it back.
i had a mustang II in highschool :D man i loved that car.
there are lots of rails out there, each with strengths and weakness's.find one that serves your purpose and has what your looking for in a rail.
DD and Larue are prob good places to start,i just picked up an lwrc arm-r rail for a project and although it doesn't have all the bells and wistles of some of the other rails it should serve it's purpose well.
All 500 of our carbines are outfitted with YHM free floaters. I am not very impressed with them. I cannot say 100% that the issues were not caused by their installation at Bushmaster. The number one problem has been that I cannot remove the rails to do maintenance. The aluminum barrel nuts are so tight that the holes strip out when trying to remove them. Thus far I have only been able to remove them by cutting them off.
I'm looking too for a near future build I have in mind.
Any one on here have experience with one of these?

In fairness I think John specs his out a little bit custom. Might drop him or SWS an email to see what they do different for him.
Heck, he's just up the road (90 miles) from me. Might have to just drop by next time I've got a job in that area.
I really like the LaRue rails.
ive got the 7.0 larue rail and couldnt ask for a better piece of kit. this is my first build, so i have no experience with the others.
I like the shape and size of the LaRue rails better. I have a 7", 9", 11" and another 7" on order just to clarify I've only had the DD Omega but did not care for the shape.
Every now and then I get the urge to pick up some tools and buy a 1-piece FF handguard. You're comment reminded me that diameter and shape affects, or should affect, a part in our choice. At least it's a concern of mine. I'd like something similar in size to my normal handguards.
DD Omega.... QD mount, FF and you dont have to take your FSB/ Gas block off to install. As for shape, I use it with a LaRue FUG so its not an issue for me. LT makes some great proiduct and I wouldnt hesitate buying one of there rails. DD Omega just fit MY needs a little better.
YHM is the best value and the product is very good for the money, however Ireally like MI railed fore-ends. They cost more, but they are first rate and easy to install.
The more and more I use SWS rails the more and more I like them.
I just got a 14" rail from SWS that had 3 QD cups, and a bipod stud included.
It weighed in at 1lb 6.9oz including the barrel nut, screws, bipod stud, and QD cups - and offered almost an inch more rail.
Anyway, I would highly recommend SWS E1 rails to anyone wanting to buy a FF rail.
i currently use a DD Omega on a colt M4 barrel and Larue's on my LMT's.
i like the dimensions of the DD but they are actually a little TOO thin, i hade to give the handguard caps a little dimple on several places to allow TD or KAC rail covers to slide on.
what can i say about LT rails. they are tough, have good shape, and are rock solid. and the rails are not sharply cut (unlike the DD and YHM) so if you've got to hold onto an area that doesn't have a cover on it, it's not painful.
.....
I happen to like the width of the DD rails with XTMs on them, especially the Lite and Omega rails. I have small hands.
