Anyone have info on rifle specs, or who's making these for them? If I had to guess, I would say Aero. They don't give much in the way of specs on the website. An A1 clone has been on my want list for a while

Interesting
I like that xm177
But would have been nice if they did a
762/51 as that is the true original
I like this one.

12.7” 5.56x45mm NATO Barrel with 1-12 twist & chrome bore
That's a only bit more twist than the Reformation
I suppose anything higher than 55grain is going to be pretty unstable?
A while back Mr Gunsngear did a review of an A1 clone build he did using the Brownells barrel and other parts and to my surprise his example at least was stabilizing something like 68 or 69gr projectiles. No idea if that is overall representative of the Brownells barrels, but I was certainly surprised.
Brownells also sells an A1 profile barrel with a 1/7 twist as well, though I dunno if they are planning to release a complete rifle with that option or not.
I actually have one of the 1/7 barrels but haven't used it in a build yet, although I will nitpick about the fact that it doesn't exactly duplicate the dimensions of an M16A1 barrel.
The 1/9 AR15SPORT barrel I have in my complete A1 clone on the other hand matches the specs pretty much perfectly.
Personally, I'm hoping for build-kits and separate parts... if building the girlfriend a C7 or C8 goes forward, I know the Canucks use the CAR stock on 'em and those have been becoming a bit more challenging to find of late, at least the year or two I've been in this game. Yes, yes, laugh at the monkeyn00b trying to hang with the Cool Kids... :p
EDIT: Yuck, their XM177/CAR separate-part stock uses a crappy Commercial tube. So much for that... :(
For people who want a retro rifle but don't or don't know how to assemble this is good
little more money then I want to spend at once so ill just buy parts and build myself
I like them, especially the A1.
What I hope for is the correct port doors for these models, but I am not holding my breath right now. None of the pics show them with the port doors closed. The 601 would have a large flat square pad like this.

The XM16E1, M16A1, and XM177E2 would have the small rectangular pad like this.

Does the XM have a plastic or metal stock?
MM, it looks like plastic, and a Commercial-spec ("designed to fit both tubes") from what Mike in their tech department told me.
I did mention that the folks who drop hardcore coin for prebuilt retro models might be a little less than enthused by commercial stock wiggling on milspec tube... pity, for a minute I thought my ship had come in finding a stock source for the girlfriend's C8. :(
funny thing is these are cheaper than it cost to build one with nice parts for $100 less. P.S. NDS has lowers back in stock again if you want them in black, just ordered the XM16E1 lower today! (been waiting for 8 months)
Why would anyone pay $1300 for a rifle that can be outperformed by the same price range.
Which bug juice are we talking about? The skeeto repellent or the koolaid?
And to think I sold all my old LBE stuff, but I do got me some tiger strip BDUs. At least I got me plenty of old USGI 20s for it.
Honestly, I will wait for some indepth break down reviews. See how things shake out. I wouldn't mind owning a retro rig, something set up for just iron sighted enjoyment, an M16/A1 or other variant does draw me, don't need to throw anything other than M193 down the pipe, and I do enjoy the hell out of shooting irons on my rifles, it just makes me happy shooting groups with irons that are tighter than the guys with their optics.
Veterans for sentimental reasons, collectors and historians who aren't up for hocking transplantable organs to get a papered select-fire original, guys who have particular aesthetic preferences...
Oddball example for ya: I'm an academic sort with the career goal of becoming a History professor, and since I believe in hands-on learning one of my build goals is a jiggered-to-fail-sometimes-and-work-others A1, so I can give my students the chance to endure some of the SUCK of the Vietnam experience firsthand, albeit with none of the danger. Rebarreling and regassing the Brownells A1 might be a good head-start on the Jamomatic...
Yeah, I'm an odd duck and maybe fat-boy nerd has no business trying to share the playground with the cool kids, but I'm past the point where I really care anymore.
I wasn't in the service, and even if I had been it would have been well past the M16A1 era anyway, but I will attest that my A1 rifle clone is a delight to handle and shoot.
This is basically me. Particularly the fat part haha, which is why I'm not in the military.
I think it would be cool to be a college prof and hold class at a range/farm to shoot some shit. The education system in this country is highly geared to female brains and some hands on stuff would just be dope.
I was in the military but it was in the M16A2 service rifle era. I have a Colt SP1 and it is bad ass. I love it and one of my nephews will get it when I tip over. I wouldn't choose it to clear buildings with, but that ain't really the point.
Tony's Customs has aluminum mil-spec CAR stocks as well. They do not have the correct glossy finish like Essential Arm's stock has.

I'm in the market for a M-16A1 clone but I can't get over how shitty those handguards look. Soooooo cloooooose...
This is a good thing. A1s just evoke a turbulent time but are quintessentially a "good guy" gun. Be it seeing black and white GIs slogging through the marsh with a short Puerto Rican 60 gunner or seeing a guy standing post at the iron curtain.
Heck, I say get one of these, a GI RIA, and a set of OG-107s.
The A1 is becoming in the same pantheon as the 03A3 and the M1 Garand. It is only recently that the Vietnam Veterans are seen with the dignity they deserve and it is long overdue. And also a shame as far too many are not here to see it. These were the rifles of our fathers.
An SR-15 could smoke an A1, truly. But SR-15s weren't carried in Vietnam.
We should be grateful. Colt promised "collector" CAR-15s and A1s but I don't know if they ever actually came out (I know the price was obscene and weren't even Hartford guns).
In time, as with all generations, the last Vietnam Veteran will draw his last breath. The youngest is already in his mid 60s. This is a way to remember and honor before they become dead men living only in pictures.
The M16 is over 50 years old. When I was born - which wasn't that long ago - the US Rifle, Caliber 30, M1 was 49 years old. It wasn't long after that when we were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of V-E Day. The 50th Anniversary of Ia Drang was about two years and two months ago.
The M1 was adopted roughly thirty years after the M1903 (1903-1936). The M16 was adopted roughly thirty years after the M1 (1936-1964). The bayonet blade and shape for the first issued M16 bayonet (M7 bayonet) was identical to the last issued M1 bayonet (M5/M5A1), with both using identical scabbards (M8/M8A1). The M1903, M1, M14, and M16 all used the same M1907 leather and M1 web slings. My 1943-production M1 was last rebuilt by the Springfield Armory in 1965, a year after the adoption of the M16. When my 6'5" tall father enlisted in the Marine Corps in the 1970s, they had to issue him WWII- and Korea-era HBT uniforms - the OG-107s weren't long enough for him (he went in early enough to be issued an M14 in boot camp, late enough that they had fiberglass stocks on them).
The AR-15 (601), XM16E1, and M16/M16A1 aren't becoming of the same pantheon as Garand's rifle. They already are.
They have images of the guns with ejection port doors closed if you click on the, "Discover More," buttons.
To spare you the effort: If the pictures shown for the 601 clone are anything to go by, these retro guns do not have the correct ejection port doors.
