Today after the 2nd day of my SPR Course we fired my PD15 courtesy of Arnold. I slapped a Troy H/K style front sight and a MATECH BUIS rear on it. With no adjustments other than setting the rear sight at 200M we were able to make hits fairly consistent on steel approx. 200 yds. I was using Federal AE 55 gr. ball ammo.
alright! sounds like 55gr works fine
I've been shooting 55 grn through 1/7 barrels since 1993 w/o any problems.
I used a lot of 55 grain ammo through a Colt 6920 at the 2006 USPSA MultiGun National Championship, on targets from 3 yds to 450 yards. When I did my part behind the gun, the hits were there.
hmmm. I wonder where the rumor of shooting 55gr on a 1/7twist barrel started?
coz a lot of people from where I live advised me on a 1/9 barrel. but 1/9 is not that easy to find anymore. most barrels are 1/7
The "1/7 won't work for 55 grain ammo" generally comes from people that want to make a sale and have a bunch of 1/9 guns sitting on the shelf.
It also comes from people that believed that nonsense, bought the 1/9 gun, and are still trying to rationalize it on the internet.
ths biggest problem with getting great accuracy fom the xm193's is the fmj bullet. "precision shooting" magazine did an article about this several years ago, written by one of sierra's ballisticians, he called the fmj "evil". seems the culprit is the open base, i get very good groups from a CLE heavy-barrel using 52gr. starks, and bergers [1x8] remington was offering some 55gr. match [midway,,,have,nt seen them in a while] that shot very well also. at any rate, you will get a lot better accuracy with a flat-base than a fmj
This comes from the same people that say and teach in Armorers classes that you need to stagger the gas rings.
Guess who that may be---?
