Magazine Cleaning Experiment
I tried something new today when cleaning 30 round magazines. These were some of the older, non-Teflon Mil type tubes with green followers. The followers felt fairly smooth before I did this, but had little bits of hesitation here and there. Afterwards they felt about as smooth as Teflon tubes.
What I did was clean them -- and I know this may sound weird -- with Lemon Pledge spray wax. I used a terry cloth dish towel saturated in the spray to clean the insides and outsides top to bottom. Then I wiped down the springs, followers, and floor plates. They were spotlessly clean with very little effort.
After reassembling them, they were notable slicker than when wiped down with CLP and wiped dry. With no concerns about oil affecting ammunition. Also spray wax is very good at repelling dust and dirt. Much better than oil. And it lasts quite a while, too.
We'll see how this works out over time. Based on what I see now, though, Pledge is the way I will clean magazines from now on.
Oh, they smell fairly good, too. :D
