Retro Guns...Let's See Them...

Nothing too archaic but I did get my 80s on at the range the other day.

1943 Springfield M1 Garand with a 1950-something Kongsberg M1 bayonet. I really wish that I'd gotten into the Garand game sooner, so I could have gotten one of the minty Norwegian bayonets with scabbards when they were available for cheap... and now they simply aren't available. So my bare bayonet (that lives in a Danish scabbard) will have to suffice, for now. At least until I can find another Kongsberg in a Kongsberg scabbard.

Semi local gun store that unfortunately recently discovered the internet. It's a small unassuming place thats been a gun store since the early 60s and in the same family. They basement was like a time capsule. Enfields, Mausers, Gew88s, Sniders, double barrel shotguns, Springfield 45-70s, Arisakas, Vetirlli, even a few Jezail rifles. And that was just the basement. The showroom had all sorts of Colts and S&W revolvers in boxes some with paperwork, gazillion lever actions, more surplus rifles, funky ammo. I found boxes of 11mm Mauser, 405 Lot, 6.5 and 7.3 Carcano.

All kinds of handguns. Italian 10.4mm Italian Bodeos and Glisentis. English revolvers, FN pocket pistols, French models 1935, Savage pistols...etc...etc.. Of course Glocks and ARs as well.

This Martini came out of the basement. Chambered in 303. I shoot PPU in in. I was going to buy the 577 Snider as well but ammo for that is impossible to find and it's not compatible with the later 577 Martini Henry. And I don't know if I want to scrounge for individual part to make ammo. Heard brass shotgun shells work for it.

That place sounds amazing. People over on Gunboards have different ways of making .577 MH, including using 28ga. brass shells, I believe. I was just curious on the .303 - some swear not to use modern .303, but I don't think it's a problem for most.

The thing is tested for 18.5 tons per square inch for a service charge which, if I'm not mistaken, is 45k CUP and 49k psi. At least that's the way I understand it. Maximum CUP for 303 45k and Max psi is around 53k

I don't know what it was sighted in for originally but it shoots high at a 100. Shooting 150gr fmj I had to aim just under the pumpkin to hit it center mass.

Smith & Wesson 1875 Schofield one of the first 125 re-released in 2000 in a retro (but new made rig). The 1851 Belt Plate is original and so is the Bowie Knife. Both are family heirlooms. The knife scabbard was made by a local New Mexico leather smith. The gun rig and belt by Stan Dolega of Laramie, Wyoming.
