I disagree with this. They look totally different and the weight is totally different.

Correct, 300blk is necked down 556 case. Larger bullet but exact same overall size as 556. If you shoot enough of both (sometimes at the same time) the chances of a mixup exponentially increases. Look at every round you put into a mag if you own both regardless if you have them labeled to reduce complacent re-loading.

This issue is a main reason why I don't go shooting with anyone anymore.
Unfortunately, Im a member of this club. Was distracted by the wife while loading mags from an ammo can of bulk ammo. Like a dummy, loaded a loose 300 BO into a new BCM rifle and fired it. It was quite a ride. Blow the upper apart, bolt etc. Didn’t damage the scope or lower, but the upper was toast. The bullet stretched about 3” in the barrel. Now, I refuse to load anything from a bulk can, everything is from ammo box’s which helps me see the caliber etc much clearer.
Don’t do that.....
