i've found the ergo (that i mentioned above) even better, lower, smoother, cheaper, and tougher so replaced all my old surefire (which did periodically come off accidentally)

The Manta rail covers are cut to fit like any of the ladder Style. The Manta wrap version felt similar to a silicone oven mitt so I am assuming their rail covers are similar.

I need to throw a possible caveat in about those rail covers going for my experience. Mine are from Ergo but they do not have the texture on them so I am assuming mine is a first gen. I also have the standard Ergo ladder type covers and while I am I under the assumption both are made of santoprene, the solid type do have more of a rubbery feel versus the ladder type feeling more like a flexible plastic as you have mentioned.
I also have a third type that was marketed by Blackhawk but was yet again made by ergo that have a profile similar to an installed Magpul xtm, but install like ladder rail covers. I did not like those because the overhang on the sides were prone to popping the covers off when they brushed up against something
Hope these help.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f698e79cb7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8a5c9a89d9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...71f2885f73.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aba7a0cb79.jpg

The lowest profile rail covers I've used or ever seen are the Surefire Z70. And they work great to eliminate the cheese grater effect. Discontinued but maybe find some on eBay. LaRue Index clips are about the furthest thing from low profile. Got a couple cans of those around here too. Man... I got to get rid of a lot of this stuff.

Ive found that these are super thin and pretty durable.

You can always sand those KAC panels and stipple them.
DD makes nice rubber rail covers as well.
Has anyone used them under harsh conditions? i.e. I have some I have used to cover the top picatinny rail on a BCM KMR but how well do they stay in place on the sides and bottom with "rough" use? They go on
easier than rail ladders but I would also assume pop off easier too.
All Manta covers are rubbery. Not the absolute lowest profile, but they are very comfortable to hold. Also, one thing most people missed - the Manta covers are not just for cover/comfort, it's designed as a heat insulator. You can mag-dump all day and the rail cover never gets too hot to be "uncomfortable to hold". Obviously your "mag-dump mileage" may vary, but there is a reason why every Marine M27 IAR is equipped with Manta rail covers.
On the flip side, I can't get past the look of Manta's covers though...
