What do you think of these? Still cool or outdated in 2019?
They are heavy with the M4 profile barrel and RIS II but they are just cool IMO.

I love the Ris II.
Someone find me a good price on a FSP M4A1 upper.
Unnecessarily heavy.
Poorly balanced.
Carbine gas system.
Stupid barrel profile.
Dat furniture tho?
$2000!
Nope. Get an SR15.

If you are looking to buy a ready-made upper for a M4A1 SOPMOD Block II build, they are good to go for that. They do have the heavier 14.5" SOCOM profile barrel like the real M4A1s. The extended A2 type FH is pinned and welded and is not correct for a Block II. The down side, if you are wanting to change it, is that it would have to be carefully removed in order install a correct Surefire 4-prong (or 3-prong if you do not want to spring over $30 for a SF4P) and have it pinned and welded. The good thing is that DD offers them with a FSB and low profile gas block. There are numerous guys building M4A1 SOPMOD Block IIs these days. I built mine a few months ago. I assembled mine using individual parts. The handguard and low profile Mk12 gas block are DD, barrel is a BCM SOCOM, FH is a SF3P (P&W), upper is Aero Precision. The lower assembly is also a compilation of individual parts.

You guys know you can piece together an actual Colt upper for less than what DD charges right?
Also nobody pins their 14.5s

If building an AR15, I would seriously consider a DD barrel; however all of their full rifles are considerably overpriced IMO, even more so for me, considering I don't like any of their furniture, magazines, or sights and would dump all of that.

Forgot you were part of the problem... LMFAO.
My 13.375” DD M4A1 is a Midlength. I thought only the FSP model was a carbine length?
What does that have to do with anything? Just in case you guys forgot, there are laws in this country and regulations regarding the NFA class firearms. It is of my opinion that these laws are unconstitutional, but until they change or are repealed, they remain. Not everyone feels or has the need to SBR an AR just for the sake of not pinning and welding a muzzle device. I have a few SBRs (10", 10.5", and 11.5") and all of my 14.5" ARs have pinned and welded muzzle devices. I have no need for the 14.5s to be SBRs as do many others. It is not worth the paperwork and the expense, nor is it worth the hassle if I want to take one out of state.
It’s pretty simple. If you’re going to parade yourself around as a 3%er who’s all about Muh rights, Muh liberty, etc who fancies themselves the modern day revolutionary then be about that life. Otherwise you’re just an attention seeking poser LARPing as such.
And yea the laws are BS and a lot of folks play the game for obvious reasons. Fine. Just don’t be the fudd acting like a hard ass until you get called out about it.

Oh well. Is what it is.
Anyways yes Block 2 stuff is still cool but buying DD offerings is overrated. Atleast factory new stuff.

All personal preference. Really liked the one I had, just sold it to buy something I wanted more. May be slightly outdated, but it’s a solid/respectable choice. Sweet running rig, shoots nice and accurate, smooth recoil. It didn’t feel terribly heavy be any means. Bought it new and didn’t pay anywhere near msrp. I actually feel DD rifles are decent buy. I’ve easily found them new from reputable dealers in the $1200-1400 when shopping around.
$1600 at my dealer. I was actually just about to get an SR15 from grabagun but went out of stock before I had the guts to submit the order.
All truth.
The interwebz said you’re going to go to the ATF jail in Siberia now.
In all honesty, I do kind of like the RIS II. But I’d never put one on a long gun and have no desire to own a 10.3 barrel. If they made a 10.5 RIS II to pair with an 11.5, I’d be all about it.

Perfect example of an overpaid GS with credentials from some limp dick agency, aka "get outta jail free card" if they happen to get caught breaking some rule they flaunt like they are some sort of folk hero.
Douche-nozzles like that are part of the problem.

Ive got an original DD M4, not sure if its A1 or not, but I bought it in 2008. Its got a non-hammer forged barrel. I believe its sub serial 1000 or right near 1000 so its a fairly early gun I believe. At one point they had offered the early buyers the ability to send the upper back to swap in a hammer forged barrel, but I never took them up on it because the gun was a shooter.
It was my first AR15 so I doubt ill ever sell it but I dont shoot it much vs. my SBR or 18" SPR or my 6.5 creed. Its also the only factory AR that I own.
I used to own one and almost loved it. The problem for me was that changing the muzzle device would have been a pain in the ass (due to the pin and weld). I ended up selling it and that was the last complete rifle I ever bought. After that I started building my own ARs to my own “specs” and haven’t looked back. Sure the M4A1 looks cool but IMO the RIS 2 is more cumbersome than other options out there. You can get a lighter rail and a heavier barrel and get better performance out of your AR (not that the DD socom Barrel sucks, but once again, better options)
Edit: All that matters is what you like and what you’re comfortable with; who cares what forums think is cool.
had one, and it was a POS.
Overgassed, cerakote improperly applied, rail system installed crooked with the hangers actually touching the barrel. Couldn't even straighten the rail because the mounting plate was out of spec.
I don’t know, the rifle had a few pretty bad reviews on Brownells.

Are we talking the Dark earth Anodizing in the rail?
