Hi folks,
Couple questions:
1. Will a 6.5 Creedmore suppressor work on 5.56 effectively?
2. Thoughts on screw/quick attach suppressor vs integrated?
Appreciate your thoughts!

A 30cal can will work just fine on 6.5 and 556. I prefer some sort of QD mount for easy switching. I think the sandman S is a good first can for all rifle purposes

all of my AR suppressors use brake/flash hider attachments.
Ive used 30 cal cans on ARs before but none of them do as well as a 556 can made and dedicated for the AR.
Personal favorite is the tried and true KAC NT4 QDSS tank of a can. Its awesome, and lives most of its life on my 10.3" SOCOM profile colt SBR. hell of a truck gun.
I am thinking about getting a suppressor for my rifles. Is there a model that would work well for both a .308 and a 5.56 so that I wouldn't have to purchase two separate ones, or would it be best to just get a caliber specific model?
I like my spec war 556. I have a couple of them.
I run a .308 quicksand on my .556 AR and love it. Quick on and off, same amount of suppression. When I decide to purchase a .308 it will be easy to swap over.
One can only or do you plan on getting more? I have found that everything is a compromise. I have a specwar 556 that is quiet but long and heavy and a SF SOCOM Mini 556 that is shorter, lighter, less gassy, but of course louder.
I find myself shooting the mini a lot more often on a 14.5 and my 11.5. I only shoot the specwar on my 10.3.
I prefer QD because I also enjoy shooting without the can.
As mentioned, a .30 or 6.5mm will be fine for a 5.56.
Either a QD or a “thread over muzzle brake” such as a SAS, TBAC or Q suppressor
I like over-bored suppressors on .223 way more. Even in bolt gun. Pappabear runs a 30 call can on his .223 Rem 700, and it's perfect.
The larger the bore, the less gas usually... and less port snap most of the time.
I do love the KAC 5.56 cans though... other than that, I don't think I'd buy another 5.56 can...
My experience only goes back about a year, but I bought one .30 cal can and several threaded muzzle brakes for the different .308/5.56 rifles thinking I would switch it back and forth at the range. It turns out that most range trips have been for one purpose and there was no need to switch between rifles.
If money is not tight, then get as many specific can/rifle combinations as you want/can afford so each caliber has the best can designed specifically for that round / length / balance / configuration, etc. I found the weight / length / balance / handling issues more important than the sound reduction.
Several weeks ago I got my OSS HX-QD 762 Ti and I will be running it on my Colt 6933 along with a Smith Ent. M21 and a 6.5 CM Hunting Rifle.
Lots of good suppressor discussion in this thread below.

If you want a do it all suppressor I'd get a 7.62... you can shoot just about anything through it at that point. For a single suppressor solution I think the Surefire 7.62 mini is bar non the best option on the market. Their mounting system is one of the best, low blow back (with the exception of the 300 sps) and the mounts are not suppressor caliber specific... I.E. you can put a 7.62 can on a 5.56 muzzle device.
A consideration if you go direct/screw on, is that different caliber suppressors may have different threads. The DA .308 suppressor may not screw on to the 5.56 threads.
This is an excellent point. If looking to use a QD type mount, make sure you can get the mount in both 1/2x28 and 5/8x24. Or whatever fits your muzzle.
Another vote for Sandman with the key mount. I have the L.
Same thought pattern was followed for pistols as I purchased the G45 so it could be used on 45, 10mm, 9mm.
I really like the brake that the Sandman comes with when shooting unsuppressed.
Specifically, that it was designed more for 7.62x39 and .300 NATO rather than 7.62 NATO, and that the internal design works better with faster burning powder rounds.
As I recall, I checked recommends usage in Surefire’s site, to semi-verify that.
Here is my email to Surefire:
And here is Surefire Tech Support’s response:Quote:
Hello,
I have been considering a Surefire suppressor purchase. I already have mounted several muzzle devices to allow movement between firearms.
It seemed like a good idea to purchase a 762 Mini, and use on both a 7.62 NATO and (primarily) multiple 5.56 weapons. I previously read anecdotal observations/recounts of conversations with Surefire reps that the 762 Mini was really not for use with 5.56 firearms. But I have also read (on forums) that the 762 Mini is just a 556-RC2 with a bigger hole.
What is the actual recommendation? Or perhaps phrased better, is it not a good idea to use the 762 Mini in a 5.56mm application?
Thank you,
That said, my previous anecdotal readings were not very positive about using the 762 Mini with 5.56, for the reasons stated a couple posts earlier. Clearly, it will function fine with 5.56, and I cannot provide any data to suggest it would not be a good match. So, I’ll say I spoke out of my lane a bit.Quote:
Apologies for the misinformation. It is confirmed you can use any SOCOM762 suppressor on a 5.56 platform due to its larger bore diameter. Generally speaking, you can go down in caliber when mounting suppressors, but you do not want to go up. The other caveat is that the SOCOM762 not be optimized for 5.56 platforms and you can experience lesser decibel reduction. Hope this helps!
Thank you,
