Do I really want a 10.3" upper vs. another 11.5"
I am in the market for another SBR upper.
I had previously had the plan to get a Colt 11.5" HRT barrel, and put it together with a KAC URX3.1 I'd take off another upper. I was likely going to have marvin pitts dimple the barrel.
I have two 11.5"uppers right now. One is a BCM BHF 11.5" gov barreled with a KAC URXII, the other is a factory Colt 6933 11.5" upper.
But... Now I see the Geiselle URG-i mk18 uppers on their site on sale and I am very tempted to pick one up. My thinking is a few fold here. The price is right, I like the way it looks and it comes with a trigger I could use. I have a Surefire socom rc2 I'd use on it so the muzzle device is useful to me. I'm not really a clone guy... but I'd build it clonish. It would be a good home for my FDE eotech and peq15. I have another Colt 6933 lower in jail right now, this upper would go on the colt lower and the SSA trigger that comes with the upper would go in the lower too. The lower should be out of jail in the next month, so the timing is also right.
But, do i really want a 10.3" barrel? It would almost be for reference in my collection, but I'd still use it. My goto will remain my 11.5" BCM/URXII upper, its also where the surefire can lives mostly. My concern is all the downsides of such a short dwell time in the 10.3", this is why I have avoided it and gone 11.5" for all my other 5.56 SBR uppers.
Am I making to much of it? Is reliability and functionality of the 10.3" that much worse than the 11.5", or is it not too much of a concern?

What do your existing uppers fail at? Are your existing uppers worn out to the point they need replaced?
The better question is “do you need another SBR upper?”
