The original novels were frequently rather obscene, The Man With The Golden Gun in particular. "Is it female? Is it breathing? GAME ON..."

I liked MOST of them before Pierce Brosnan. I absolutely DETEST the current politically-correct ones, with chicks as "M" & "Q," and have therefore refused to watch them.
Least - anything with Daniel Craig
Would have liked to see Her Majesty's Secret Service with Sean Connery.
I think that was because they created the Bond Girl. If you have 8 women in the film, they all want status as the Bond Girl. Take popular UK actress Caroline Munro who had maybe 5 minutes in "The Spy Who Loved Me" but makes every list of "Bond Girls" due to her roles in other films. Obviously the Bond Girl in that film was Barbara Bach. Another famous UK actress Valerie Leon also had a 5 second part in the same film but sometimes makes a Bond Girl list.
So I think that status as an actress who has been a "bond girl" became so important there could only be one.
So in college I found the original books in paperback in a used bookstore for super cheap. So I read all the books Flemming wrote. (And his short stories)
This changed my perception some after mostly seeing Moore and later, Connery.
Of the three at the time, Lazenby was the closest to the books, followed by Connery.
The Dalton films were uneven, but I thought he played Bond well and also close to the books.
Craig hit the balance of charm, wit, and toughness, but physically does not look like my mental picture of Bond.
Bond films are like BBQ and Key Lime pies. Some are better than others, but even the bottom ranked ones are still better than no Bond.
Except for the Jaws in space one. And the weird 70's duo henchmen with the round glasses and bad haircuts.
