Storing Rifle With Hammer Cocked (empty chamber) & Safety On
M4C Members,
I'd like to hear your thoughts on keeping an AR platform rifle stored with the hammer cocked and selector on Safe, but with an empty chamber.
I store my weapons with the hammer down on an empty chamber with a full magazine. Safety is OFF, obviously.
When charging the weapon, the safety is OFF and must be switched to Safe.
If stored at the ready with the hammer cocked and selector set to Safe, after charging the weapon, it must be switched to Fire.
Will keeping the hammer cocked for weeks/months cause it to weaken so as it may affect reliability?
I don't plan on changing my current method, but was curious to see if this option is viable, or if technical reasons say otherwise.
Thanks in advance for pondering this.
