Action block recommendation?
I've been using one of the hinged blocks from Bushmaster for some time now and it's gotten pretty beat up along the way, especially with the latest mess with the vise. To be safe I'd like to replace it but years on I'm no longer so sure it's the safest way to hold an upper while torquing a barrel nut.
I checked Brownells and the Peace River block they used to sell now says it's been dropped and there aren't any others on their site or in their catalog. There's a two piece affair that can be had through Spikes Tactical but I'm not so sure I'd trust it to avoid warping or twisting a receiver. Other than that I've not found much of anything, must be looking in the wrong places I guess. I searched the site here and didn't find anything using 'action block' as the keyword.
Went through gotM4's tools for AR sticky and have most of 'em (well, not the bolt cutters and pipe wrench anyway) and I noticed the Peace River action block is said to not be used as it leaves marks on the receiver. I'd be really interested in hearing what options there might be instead.
Would definitely appreciate any suggestions or pointers.
TIA, Pete
