failure to extract / double feed while shooting prone?
Had a few malfunctions tonight at the range...
- Colt 6920 (couple years old, ~5000+ rounds through it)
- cleaned prior to visit, bolt dripping wet
- mix of PMAG / Bravo Company / NHMTG 30-round magazines
- Fed American Eagle .223 55gr FMJ BT ammo (lot # 147R702), 200 rounds fired
While shooting prone, I had seven instances where fired brass was not ejected and the next round got jammed while trying to feed; don't remember it happening more than once per mag. Had it happen once while firing standing/reaction side. Each time I dropped the mag, finger-banged the mag well to clear the round, dropped the bolt and it would then eject the fired casing. While prone, the magazine was not touching the ground. Zero issues when firing standing/kneeling weapon side.
Is this just a coincidence that it happened while prone or reaction side, or am I doing something wrong? This was my first time shooting prone with my AR, but I've done a bit of reaction side shooting without issue with other ammo.
First time I've ever fired this ammo, is it crap? A buddy gave me 500 rounds of it, so I hope to finish it off. The only other ammo I had on hand was M855 which I can't shoot at the range I frequent...
