I've been carrying my heavy 308 boltie B-D style, and it seems to me the important thing is not only B-position, but also ensuring that is at 9:00 or higher. The D-position is a little less finicky, so you can "almost" run it using the standard mount, under the rear of the stock. Still works better higher up, tho.
