The base plates on the MSAR mags broke after drop testing. Definitely not as durable as the Lancer, Tango Down or Pmags.
Cosmetics certainly aren't everything, but HOW sweet would those translucent mags look with some green-tip M855's loaded up? Damn good I must say.
What is the ETA on these most excellent looking translucent TD ARC mags? I must say they look nice, and I'm just HOPING that "nose diving" issues are not going to be a rampant issue with the ARC mags. We've heard several guys who have had such issues, but it's still early at this point, and the ARC is apparently working well for some, if not many shooters at this early point in the game.
Secondly, AnchorA,
I had not heard about the Magpul "TMAG", which I assume stands for "Translucent", but does anyone have info on the "EMAG" from Magpul?
I was ANXIOUSLY anticipating the new EMAG (which stands for "European" Mag, according to Chris Costa at SHOT SHOW 09), as I was really anticipating it for use with the SCAR.
Costa had said the new EMAG was designed for the SCAR/Hk416, and others such as the British SA80, or whatever that thing is the Brits use.
Anyhow, I recently heard, on another forum, that Magpul has most recently conveyed some level of doubt, in regards to the new EMAG working in the SCAR (and not sure about the other weapons it was designed for???)
This is disappointing, as I was really looking for a Magpul mag that works, and drops freely from the SCARs magwell. Even the FN techs here on this forum said they had got together with Magpul on this issue, or at least Magpul had obtained a SCAR for this purpose.
Does anyone have further info on the EMAG, and what the possible issue may be? Was this info about it possibly not working possibly BS heresay? IIRC, the person that shared the info had close ties to Magpul, and was not posting internet BS, but rather, had posted info direct from Magpul employees.
Maybe someone reading this has more info?
No ETA on the translucent ARC mags. I still don't have tan and OD ARC mags yet.
EMag stands for EXPORT MAG, as was explained to me. It was supposed to work in the HK 416 and such. I never heard if they did testing on the SCAR.
The ARC Mags were designed for the SCAR and will be issued with the SCAR at some point.
The Tmag is a "training" mag that is translucent. It has not been put out yet. The last I heard is that Magpul was having issues with feed lips handing the heat from FA use.
Right now, the Lancer mags are the best / only option for a translucent mag. It will be interesting to see how the Translucent ARC mags compares. Lancer has set the standard for Translucent mags.
pretty sweet. :)
this is just a proto and is not to be taken as a representation of the final product.

Interesting, as I personally heard "European" Mag come out of the conversation between Costa and a couple other guys while in a discussion about the EMAG at SHOT 09. I also heard Costa state it was designed for the "SCAR/Hk416/SA80", and one or two others, which I cannot recall.
This was not heresay, but what I heard them discussing while standing right next to them at SHOT.
Oh well, maybe they will at least come up with a solution for the SCAR. I was hoping to have at least one more option in addition to the ARC, as far as polymer SCAR mags go. I love USGI mags above all else on the planet, but I'm always looking to have a polymer option or two as well...
Roger that. I love options.
MM, thanks for the pic.
Ah yes, I always love to see your replies MM! I've enjoyed your site pics and reviews for years. Those M855's indeed look most excellent in that trans. ARC mag! I cannot wait to T&E a couple myself. Just waiting for FDE and Trans. before I make my move...
I sure am glad TD has decided to give the SCAR some attention with various accessories they've already released, and will soon release. I'm sure many of you guys interested in the SCAR, have also seen TD's Armorers Block set, specifically made for the SCAR. I DO wish they would have included a set of urethane/polymer lined bbl vise jaws, but those can still be had from Brownells at least.
Additionally, I would like to see a .Mil ARC side-by-side with a Civi ARC, just for comparison purposes... Anyone know if such a pic exists?
the only difference is the lip. i'm sure you can tell the difference even if they're not side by side in pics. pics of both on my site:
