Both sections (the stubby cap and the middle section extension) are sealed with an o-ring. It appears to be just as watertight as my TD's.
It's really pretty well beveled. I'm sitting here with it running my hand across it and don't "feel" the edges. The only straight edge is on the top end (above the rail) and I'm hard pressed to get my hand against it.
One thing I noticed, the Troy doesn't rely on a single lug or the screw itself to interface with the rail in the middle. It has two BIG lugs front and rear.
How many ways can you make a stick that connects to a rail?
That being said, they differ from the FUG in a few ways. Non-QD, two piece dovetail mount. Instead of three different caps, they just throw in a middle section that you can add if you want full length. Knurled aluminum vs polymer.
Not saying it's in any way "better" than a FUG, just another option.
I've run them all. I like the TD and FUG for QD use. The FUG and Troy offer multiple lengths. The Troy and TD offer a "slimmer" profile.
Different strokes, I guess...
