Next time I get some brass that's been run over by a vehicle, I'll document just how bad a piece can be and still be salvaged.
In order to stop this on my AR's, I put a piece of adhesive backed velcro (the furry part, not the hooked part) on the case deflector. If you trim it right it doesn't look too bad, and I no longer have dented brass. Some of my friends have also trimmed a coil or two off of the ejector spring which seems to reduce the violence associated with case ejection.
I don't know much about ARs, but I don't think I'd mess with a reliable extractor just to save brass... But I like my guns to go boom every time.
i too reload some pretty dinged up brass, as long as they chamber easily the cases will "fire form" back to the chamber size, i also use the Velcro trick on the case deflector AND the dust cover this eliminates the slamming of the cover down onto the lowers mag release button raised area dinging it, another trick i use to eliminate stock "rattle" is put a small strip of Velcro on the SIDE of the buffer tube putting it on the top will not work, it must be on one side of the tube (i put mine on the right side) to eliminate that "rattle" some slider stocks have.
I'm not suggesting that you mess with the extractor. Please don't accuse me of arfcom logic beause you carelessly read my post. I'm just trying to help out.
My bad, I would have sworn that said extractor originally... but as your post isn't edited and says ejector, clearly I was wrong.
yes, the bad part of a dent will size out and the rest will fireform out when fired. Load no problem.
